Millwall in talks with Arsenal about loan deal for Afobe

MILLWALL are hoping to sign Benik Afobe from Arsenal in time for the striker to face Blackpool on Saturday, NewsAtDen understands.

The Lions are battling with three Championship rivals to land Afobe after he returned from a loan spell at Bolton but the England U21 international looks set for The Den.

His arrival would bring to an end Kenny Jackett's 18-month pursuit of the one-time Barcelona target and inject much-needed pace into Millwall's frontline.

Jackett first tried to sign Afobe in June 2011 but the deal was scuppered when the striker picked up an injury. The Lions made a fresh approach last summer but the 19-year-old joined Bolton instead.

Afobe scored three goals in 23 appearances for the Trotters but his season-long loan move to the Reebok Stadium was cut short last week at the agreement of both clubs.

And so Jackett is confident of finally landing his man at the third time of asking when the emergency loan window opens for clubs in the Football League on Friday.

I think he would do better at wall than he did at Bolton.

Give the fella a chance!! Can't be a mug if he's at Arsenal and if other clubs are after him. Statistics don't always tell the whole story.

Personally, if he plays up with hulse it could bare fruits but I'm not holding my breath. If Kenny can work his magic on him it could be a great signing. I'd love to see us have at least 4 class strikers in place for next season together with a more dynamic midfield. Only then will we be ready for a promotion push! COYL!!!!

He looked out of his depth in our league.... I'd rather Harry Kane but I'll take Afobe

With Defoe injured I think there is nil chance of Spurs releasing Kane to us. This guy looks interesting, been a while since we had real pace up front, and we wll know KJ can produce some excelent results with loanees. Chris Woods' record before he came to us was not outstanding..

3 in 23 not the best stats but he was probably used more as a sub hence cancellation of the loan. hopefully KJ gets his man he obviously likes him and wants to work with him and at least he's not settling for what he has, good on ya KJ.

I think this could be a little gem of a signing for KJ, with Hulse nodding the balls in to the danger areas and with a decent pace man up front I think it could possible for us to forget about Wood and get on with our charge... COYL!!!!!
