MILLWALL were sent crashing to their third straight defeat in the Championship by David Meyler's first-minute winner on a frustrating afternoon at The Den.
Mark Beevers' mistake allowed the former Sunderland man to race clear and score what proved to be the decisive goal with just 37 seconds on the clock.
The Lions had chances to get back into the game and should have equalised when James Henry found himself one-on-one with David Stockdale in the second-half, but he blazed over.
Shane Lowry was recalled to Millwall's starting line-up with stand-in left-back Beevers moving back into the middle of the defence at the expense of Karleigh Osbourne.
Boss Kenny Jackett dropped striker Andy Keogh to the bench as John Marquis was handed his third start of the season, spearheading a 4-5-1 formation.
Josh Wright came into midfield alongside Liam Trotter and Jimmy Abdou, while Martyn Woolford replaced Liam Feeney on the left as the Lions made three changes from their 2-0 defeat to Barnsley.
The game sprang into life when Beevers' under-hit back-pass gifted possession to the onrushing Meyler who, with just David Forde in front of him, tucked the ball into the bottom corner.
Millwall thought they had won a penalty when Henry was tripped in the sixth minute, but referee Paul Tierney adjudged the challenge to have been outside the area and awarded a free-kick.
Hull then went in search of a second goal as Ahmed Elmohamady tricked his way past Trotter and crossed to the back post, but Danny Shittu made a crucial defensive header.
In the 17th minute, quick passing between Adam Smith, Woolford and Henry culminated in the latter clipping the ball into Trotter's path, but Tigers 'keeper Stockdale dived on the ball.
Another chance fell to Marquis when he evaded the attentions of Abdoulaye Faye from Smith's cross, but the striker could only head the ball straight into the arms of Stockdale.
Stephen Quinn went close to extending the visitors' lead in the 25th minute when he fizzed an effort just wide after Elmohamady's cross had reached the back post.
Forde was called into action on the half-hour mark to keep out Jay Simpson's snapshot with his feet, before Woolford sent an ambitious overhead kick just wide at the other end.
The Tigers nearly doubled their advantage just before half-time when Robert Koren played a smart one-two with Elmohamady but his goal-bound shot was blocked by Abdou.
Jackett decided to shift back to a 4-4-2 formation at the start of the second-half with Marquis and Wright making way for Keogh and Rob Hulse.
The Lions could have easily been down to ten men in the 50th minutes when Hulse, who had barely touched the ball, lunged in two-footed on Quinn, but the striker escaped with a booking.
However, Hulse was providing a much-needed outlet in the final third and it was his pass out wide to Smith that allowed the right-back to swing over a dangerous cross that was cleared for a corner in the 55th minute.
Millwall spurned a golden chance to draw level when Henry seized on Jack Hobbs's attempted back-pass but the ball took a bobble at the crucial moment and the winger skied his shot.
The Lions were on top heading into the last 20 minutes but Hull remained a threat on the counter-attack and after a Millwall corner was cleared, £3million-signing Nick Proschwitz raced away before firing over.
Stockdale came to his side's rescue with ten minutes remaining when he kept out Henry's first-time volley after a looping cross had only been cleared as far as the winger on the edge of the area.
Hull could have put the result beyond doubt when Simpson played in Koren late on, but Forde's save proved insignificant as Millwall failed to produce an equaliser in five additional minutes.
