Millwall secure loan extension for Spurs right-back Smith

TOTTENHAM have allowed right-back Adam Smith to extend his loan spell at Millwall until the end of the season.

Smith's initial three-month deal with the Lions expired at midnight on Wednesday but the England U21 star trained as normal on Thursday after Spurs gave him the green light to stay in SE16.

Speaking after Millwall's 2-0 defeat to Barnsley, Smith reiterated his desire to finish the campaign at The Den amid speculation that Tottenham were trying to find a Premier League club for him.

And after concrete interest from the top-fligt failed to materialise, Tottenham agreed to the Lions' request to extend Smith's loan until the summer.

Manager Kenny Jackett told the club's official site: "We are delighted Adam is staying. He has been a regular at right-back for us and has done very well.

"We look forward to continuing to work with him and help with his development and football education here."

This is a fantastic bit of business, Smith loves it at Millwall because he is playing week in week out.
He is going to be a top quality player one day!

Bit of bright news for once on an otherwise disappointing transfer window, also makes sense. However watch our fans at the end of the season start saying we should sign him full time, sorry in aint going to happen so enjoy his time with us while you can.

ohhh no way - we'll never be getting him again but chuffed he's with us for the rest of this season.... to be honest I think he could push Kyle Walker for that RB spot in Spurs' team next year!!

I am absolutely delighted to hear this news, its a real boost for Wall (would only be bettered by a headline that we had bought him from spurs on a permanent 5 year deal ! ). I have been going to this Den and the old Den for many many years and he is one of the brightest stars I've seen. A good old fashioned right back that is prepared to go forward, overlap, take on players and have a bash at goal. I love the way he overlaps Henry and likes to go to the byline..something I think is sadly lost in the modern game. All too often a player will cross short instead of getting to the byline and making their defenders work for their money. He has a very bright future ahead of him and its starts against Hull on Saturday !

Yeah your right marshy I remember glen Johnson and we said that about him and he went on to England, unfortunately for smith he has to compete against Kyle walker Kyle naughton and Micah Richards but absolute little gem of a player full of energy but has a maturity about him that I don't think the kyle's have.great bit of business. ain't it nice that we can help bring him on and also a bit of news that we can all agree on for once.

Great news, coz alan Dunne really doesn't cut the ice at right back! I know what everyones saying but put it this way, I would rather have Hulse and Tyson on LOAN, rather then Henderson permanently. We can't be ripping into them at this stage, give them a chance to show us what they can do at the den. Don't get me wrong I would love a younger striker too, and I think Kenny will get one before the end of today, but we need to back the boys 100% if we want to push for those top spaces, that after all is what we do best! COYL!!!

Hard to say, was awful to begin with. If he gets his confidence he'll cause problems. Not really a team player but quality at his best.

Maybe its not for lack of trying that we didn't get a 'younger' striker in. Lets be fair, its a hard footballing world now we live in, where loyalty has all but gone and money talks. We are probably in the bottom 6 clubs in the Championship for transfer cash and wages. Maybe we just didn't have the attraction to some of these younger lads that the likes of Leicester (I'm trying hard not to swear in anger) have got. I suppose we all thought Hendo was a waste, but when he was on song, he was great in my opinion.....I am as disappointed as anyone we didn't get another goal-getter, but the deadline has gone and we'll have to see if Hulse can bag us a few, or at least train up Marquis how to run, hold up the ball properly. Hulse is an old warhorse, s maybe some of that can rub off on JM?

It makes a little sence marsh
But if that's the reasoning behind it
Then I'd rather bring back haris at least he has a proven track record and being a club legend JM would listen a whole lot more. IMO.

Maybe but if we ain't got the funds available for a play off push then it was a great chance to try and off load the dead wood if we got nothing in terms of transfer fees at least we could build up the wage budget for start of the next window rather than wait until the last week or two and struggle for more loan signings there's a lot of players out of contract in June and we could have moved in early and perhaps offered a grand or two more.
