Millwall boss expects decision on Spurs loanee next week

KENNY Jackett expects to learn next week whether Millwall will be able to extend the loan deal of Tottenham right-back Adam Smith until the end of the season.

Smith is due to return to Spurs after the Lions' game against Barnsley on January 29 but Jackett has made a request to keep the England U21 international for longer.

Tottenham's technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood told NewsAtDen last week that a decision had not yet been made on Smith's future – but Jackett expects that to change shortly.

"I've been speaking to Spurs on a regular basis," he said. "I have also spoken to the player and his agent – Adam is very happy here and he likes it here.

"Spurs are happy with what we've done and the opportunity we've given him. In an ideal world, in his development, he would go on to get some Premier League experience.

"They want to develop Premier League players but I don't know whether that is going to be now or next season. When the stepping stone happens, I don't know.

"We hope it can be prolonged by six months. We won't know right until the end. He has two games left with us and I would anticipate having some sort of decision at the beginning of next week."

Come on sherwood make a decision and let the boy get valuable playing experience with his feet and a ball instaed of keeping his backside warm on a bench somewhere, let him stay at the WALL.

Totally makes sense for him to stay on with us for the rest of the season.

I may be a little bit biased though 😉

I think even if we don't get him, kj will find another RB to get on loan. Read that he is keen on someone at Fulham but can't remember his name?

I though he got skinned for Burnley's first goal.
However he is still the best right back at the club so keeping him is important right now.
We are wobbling a bit at the moment and need some stability.
