MILLWALL manager Kenny Jackett has pulled out of talks to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine, NewsAtDen can reveal.
The Lions were on the verge of striking a deal with the Owls for the 22-year-old last week but have backed away from negotiations and are not expected to take their interest any further.
It is understood Jackett had second thoughts about signing Madine – either on loan or permanently – after learning he is due to go on trial for assault in April and could be unavailable during that time.
The Millwall boss confirmed to NewsAtDen that, despite "making an enquiry", Madine was no longer a target – although he played down suggestions that a deal had been close.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall and with an impressive goalscoring record, Madine would have been an ideal replacement for Chris Wood.
The Gateshead-born frontman has netted 25 times in 79 appearances since his £800,000-move to Hillsborough in January 2011, but has scored just three times for Dave Jones' strugglers this term.
