MILLWALL are hopeful that Chris Taylor will not require season-ending knee surgery after receiving a positive set of scan results.

The winger sustained ligament damage against Brighton in December and it was feared he would have to go under the knife to correct the problem.

But the Lions are now optimistic Taylor's knee will heal naturally and the 26-year-old could return to action by the end of February.

Taylor has made 18 appearances this term following his summer switch from Oldham, scoring two goals. His contract expires in June but his injury is unlikely to affect negotiations about an extension.

When fit again, Taylor will face competition on the left side of midfield from new signing Martyn Woolford, who joined the Lions on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Bristol City on Wednesday.
