MILLWALL captain Danny Shittu has been named in Nigeria's preliminary 32-man squad for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations.

The centre-back's return to international football has been speculated about for several months and he has now been called-up by national team coach Stephen Keshi.

Keshi has to whittle down his final squad to 23 players before the competition begins in South Africa on January 19.

If Shittu accepts his place in the Super Eagles' squad, he will travel to Portugal as soon as January 4 to take part in a training camp.

The Lions are at risk of losing the defender's services at a crucial stage of their season and he could miss at least four games if he takes part.

Boss Kenny Jackett said last month that Shittu had not intimated a desire to play in the African Cup of Nations – or revealed that he was even being considered for selection.

hmm, going to be a big miss if he goes, i'm sure if Robbo is fit then he should be a good replacement.

I think, if Robbo isn't back, Lowry will come in at CB and maybe Malone/Jack Smith at LB
