Millwall boss hopeful Jed red will be downgraded

NEIL Harris revealed he was contacted by a number of people expressing their surprise at the decision of the referee to send off Jed Wallace on Saturday – as Millwall wait on official word whether they have been successful with an appeal.

Tony Harrington produced a straight red card after Wallace had fouled Tom Flanagan in the 58th minute of Millwall's 1-0 defeat to Burton.

Brewers boss Nigel Clough admitted he and his staff were "amazed" at the decision, and Wallace could serve a three-match ban if an FA disciplinary panel decide Harrington took the appropriate action.

However, Harris is hopeful that the referee will admit he made a mistake.

"We sent the notice we would be appealing on Saturday during the press conference," Harris said. "I'm not sure when we will find out officially, this week hopefully.

"I've never had so many people text, ring me, regarding something that should be so trivial, to say, 'what's the referee doing? It should never be a red card.'

"It's astounded many people and hopefully the referee sees it and says, 'I've made an error.' It's a genuine error, at the time he thinks it's a red card.

"He's got it wrong so hopefully having reviewed it he's brave enough to say that and it's downgraded to a yellow."
