Millwall winger: Brentford clash 'right up our street'

JED Wallace believes Millwall’s game against Brentford on Saturday will feature a “clash of styles”.

The Lions head to west London to take on a Brentford side that has won just once in 11 league games this season, a 3-0 victory at bottom club Bolton.

However, Dean Smith’s side are unbeaten in three and Wallace says they possess “outstanding players”.

Brentford had 75 per cent possession in their last home game, when they drew 1-1 with Derby. Millwall will be content to sit deep and try to catch the hosts on the break.

Millwall received a double injury blow during the international break with the news that Shaun Williams would be out for three months and Byron Webster for the rest of the season.

“The international break has come at the right time for us with the couple of knocks,” Wallace said. “It’s a good game for us: London derby, small pitch, tight stadium. It’s right up our street.

“Brentford are a very, very good side. They have outstanding players.

“They’ve probably not had the start they wanted. They were probably similar to us at the start of the year, playing well but not winning. I’ve seen them batter teams but not get the points.

“It’s going to be a clash of styles and it’s a game we’re looking forward to.

“We’ve got two massive games coming up, Birmingham and Brentford, and we need to be on the front foot in both.”

Jake Cooper and Ryan Tunnicliffe are the likely replacements for Webster and Williams, and Wallace revealed they have been working hard to get up to speed ahead of the Bees clash.

He said: “They’ve been doing an extra bit of fitness work with Bloomy (head of performance Laurence Bloom) to make sure they’re ready to go. It’s a weird one in football because if you’re not in the 11 you work harder in training than if you are.

“It’s all about games when you’re playing and when you’re not the training loads are really difficult. And they need to be because you need to be ready when you come in.
