Millwall boss ponders goalkeeper move

MILLWALL manager Neil Harris isn’t ruling out signing another goalkeeper before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

Harris has two senior stoppers on the books, but neither Jordan Archer, 24, nor Tom King, 22, have played higher than third-tier football.

The experienced David Forde was allowed to leave the club after his contract expired in the summer, and he joined League Two Cambridge United last week.

King deputised for first-choice Archer when the latter was injured last season, but he has played just 17 senior games for the club.

Harris’ priority positions to strengthen are in defence, where at the moment he has just two senior centre-backs, assuming Tony Craig will continue to be a left-back option this season, and in midfield.

Millwall could also yet add another attacking player.

“We are still trying to get two signings, a centre-half and a centre-mid,” Harris said. “I’ve had an eye for a while on whether we need another goalkeeper. That’s a consideration.

“We maybe just need to add a little bit of experience. We have two cracking young goalkeepers but neither have experience at Championship level.

“As ever we’re looking for competition in the squad, people to make us better not just on the field but off the field as well. That’s been ongoing.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done but I’m really pleased with a lot of aspects of our pre-season so far.”
