Millwall boss has say on Forest fixture change

NEIL Harris admitted he “wasn’t too happy” when Millwall’s opening-day Championship clash with Nottingham Forest was brought forward – but expects Lions fans to travel in large numbers to the fixture.

The game at the City Ground was originally scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, August 5, but was this week moved to the previous day with a 7.45pm kick-off to avoid a clash with Nottinghamshire’s T20 Blast fixture at Trent Bridge.

But Harris insisted the Lions would “just get on with things”.

“I’ve got to be honest, I wasn’t too happy about it,” he said. “I do like the opening day of the season with a three o’clock kick-off like everyone else. That’s the excitement of the first day of the season, that’s the way I like it as an English football fan.

“It is what it is. It’s dictated by a cricket match, but why that couldn’t have been moved I don’t know.

“Again, Millwall get the raw deal and I don’t think that’ll be the last time I see that this season in the Championship.

“We’ve been used to it over the years. We’ve had a lot chucked at us in the last couple of years and we just get on with things. This will be no different.

“The fans will look forward to it, I’m sure we’ll take a huge following. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t sell our allocation and ask for more.

“It’s the first game of the season, away from home. Nottingham is only a couple of hours away, it’s a great, traditional football club. It’s an opportunity for fans to travel in big numbers on a Friday evening and support their team.”
