Harris lays down challenge to Millwall players

NEIL Harris has admitted Millwall’s schedule next week isn’t “ideal”, but he is demanding three victories from his squad to continue their good run.

The Lions have won eight out of their last 11 games and drawn one, and face three games in six days in three competitions starting with Braintree in the second round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Millwall host Wycombe in the last 32 of the EFL Trophy next Wednesday, before they face Shrewsbury Town at The Den on Saturday week when a win could see them climb into the top six for the first time since September.

“We want to win both cup games,” Harris said. “They are first-team fixtures that as a manager I want to win and my players want to play in both.

“I have to balance the fact we have three games in six days. It’s not an ideal schedule but we get on with it as ever and respect all competitions.

“I want three wins in six days at The Den, that’s my demand to the players. It’s down to me and my staff to manage the players and ensure we’re in the best possible shape for each fixture and give ourselves the best opportunity to win each game.”

Millwall were knocked out of the FA Cup in the second round last year by Wycombe, who then went on to draw Aston Villa, and Harris warned his side they mustn’t take anything for granted against National League Braintree.

He said: “My players will be up for it from the first moment. They come to work on Sunday and are there to perform and get their club into the next round.

“Because if they don’t they’ll find themselves out of the team.”
