THE opening day of last season saw Millwall take in their first ever trip to the Greenhaus Meadow.

It was also the first meeting between the two sides for nearly two decades, since a 1-1 draw in February 1997.

Goals from Steve Morison and a Lee Gregory penalty handed the Lions a deserved 2-1 victory on the day, with the return game in April seeing the crowning moment of one youngster's blooming career.

With the Shrews holding a single-goal lead early into the second half, Ben Thompson's thunderbolt restored parity and set the club on their way to three priceless points in a 3-1 win.

Not only was the goal voted Millwall's official 'Goal of the Season', but it also won NewsAtDen's competition at a canter.

Micky Mellon's men survived relegation to League Two – but only just – in 2015-16; the bookies have them down to suffer a potentially similar fate this time around.

The departure of Nathaniel Knight-Percival to Bradford City will do the back-line no favours, but the introduction of Jim O'Brien from Coventry City will give the club added steel in the middle.

In addition to that, Mellon has swooped to bring in Gary Deegan from Southend United, whilst midfielder Junior Brown and young goalkeeper Callum Barton have also signed new deals with the club.

The two clubs will meet at The Den on December 10, whilst the return in Shrewsbury will be on March 14.
