Harris excited despite Millwall facing "difficult" start

NEIL Harris has stated that his Millwall side are "excited" to start the season, despite a "difficult August."

The EFL released the new set of fixtures on Wednesday morning, with the Lions beginning at home to Oldham, before consecutive away games against MK Dons and Peterborough.

Following that, Sheffield United visit The Den, with a trip to Chesterfield ending the month.

Harris told NewsAtDen: "We will take it one block of games at a time, starting with what is quite a difficult August.

"We have to make sure we hit the ground running and make sure we continue the away success that we had last year.

"Every season is going to be tough – this year is no different. There will difficult periods over the year."

The arrival of sides such as Charlton Athletic, MK Dons and Oxford has given League One a distinctively more southern look for 2016-17 and Harris is grateful for the reduction in travelling on the road.

October 8th and January 14th sees the two south London derbies with the Addicks, whilst the Lions will face Wimbledon at The Den on November 22nd, with the return at Kingsmeadow on January 2nd.

He said: "We just missed out on promotion last year, but with the fixtures coming out, you look for games like Coventry again and Bolton.

"There is always that anticipation, there are some good games there. I think travelling wise, they have fallen better than last year.

"It's a lot more southern this season and there is some excitement again. You look at the more local games for the fans to go to – there's Gillingham, Southend, MK Dons, Oxford, Northampton and Wimbledon.

"There will be some real good games – and atmospheres this season. Our fans will travel in their numbers again and have good days out."
