MILLWALL chief executive Andy Ambler feels that the club should be looking at achieving automatic promotion from League One next season.
The Lions lost out to Barnsley in the 2015-16 League One play-off final, but Ambler told NewsAtDen he feels there has been "progress" over the last year.
And that the club would be looking to go one better in the next League One campaign.
He said: "I think we should be aiming to go one better and aim for the top two.
"If not, we should be in the top six.
"Last season was progress – I think we progressed nicely, considering it was Neil's first full season in management and the first full season for some of the professionals that have come through into the first team."
"The players aimed for the top six and they got there. They did really well."
Last time Millwall lost a League One play-off final at Wembley, they returned the following season and won promotion to the Championship.
Ambler feels that that fact had not gone unnoticed amongst the squad, as well as sounding out the club's aspirations for the summer and indeed the 2016-17 campaign.
"Last time this happened (when we lost at Wembley), we went up the next year," Ambler said.
"I think the aspiration has to be keep the squad together and add to two or three new signings, then push on."
