MILLWALL boss Neil Harris expects teams to come calling for the services of John Marquis this summer, and he understands if the striker wants to leave the club.
Marquis, who is out of contract after the end of this season, is currently on loan at Northampton, whom he helped win the League Two title last weekend when the Cobblers drew 0-0 at Exeter.
With Steve Morison, Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien all ahead of Marquis in Harris’ plans, the Lions manager said he will respect any decision the 23-year-old makes.
“At the moment John is really happy there,” Harris said. “He’s been a great servant to this club despite his young age but with the form of Steve, Lee and Aiden he’s had really limited opportunities.
“There’s been a lot of interest in John all throughout the season and there will be in the summer. Come then I’ll be having a conversation with him about where he sees his future.
“John’s answer will be he wants to play football. If I can guarantee him a starting place next year he’ll be desperate to stay with us.
“If I can’t then he’ll want to play first-team football somewhere else and I’m really respectful of that.”
