MILLWALL will be defending a five-match unbeaten home run and aiming to maintain the four-point gap to Barnsley in seventh when they face Shrewsbury at The Den on Saturday.

Boss Neil Harris could make changes for the fixture against Mickey Mellon’s relegation-threatened side, with Shane Ferguson set to start instead of Aiden O’Brien.

Shaun Williams has started the last three matches in midfield alongside Ben Thompson, but Jimmy Abdou is challenging for a starting spot after recovering from flu.

Carlos Edwards was left out of the matchday squad last weekend for the draw with Colchester, but he is fit to provide cover for a defence that hasn’t conceded at home since the 2-0 defeat to Scunthorpe almost two months ago.

Shrewsbury were unbeaten in nine league matches before the thumping 5-1 defeat to Wigan at New Meadow last Saturday.

Attacker Sullay Kaikai, on loan from Crystal Palace and with six goals in his last five matches for the Shrews, was named Sky Bet League One player of the month for March.

Boss Mellon could have Australian midfielder James Wesolowski available after he played 90 minutes in the Shropshire Senior Cup final on Tuesday night, his first full match since he suffered a cruciate ligament injury last September.

On-loan Sheffield United midfielder James Wallace is back in full training but won’t make the trip to south London.

Former Millwall centre-back Zak Whitbread and Nathaniel Knight-Percival are suspended and Junior Brown injured, so Jack Hendry, on loan from Wigan, could start his first match for Shrewsbury.

Mellon is anticipating a tense encounter this weekend. “Playing teams whose backsides will be squeaking, there will be phases where they come at us or we’ll be allowed to go at them because the points are so important," he told Shropshire Star.

“I’d rather be playing teams at the other end of the table that still had something to play for.

“There are big crowds, big clubs and it’s fantastic. It’s a great challenge.”
