Millwall loan watch: Marquis' Cobblers close in on promotion

Loan Watch

JOHN Marquis came on as a second-half substitute to help Northampton Town edge closer to promotion to League One.

The Cobblers stretched their unbeaten run to 18 league games after a Ricky Holmes double helped them claim a 2-2 draw at home to Notts County. They are now 14 points clear of second-placed Oxford United.

Northampton need just three more points with six games remaining to ensure they will be playing in the third tier next season.

The news wasn’t as good for Millwall loanees in National League action at the weekend.

Goalkeeper Tom King couldn’t prevent Braintree losing 3-1 at Mcclesfield and they stay one place outside the play-off spots, one point off Tranmere but with two games in hand. Jack Powell was on the bench for Braintree.

Alfie Pavey was introduced as a 75th-minute substitute as Aldershot tried to recover a 1-0 deficit at home to Barrow, but they fell short and remain in 15th place in the table.

Meanwhile, Keaton Wood was in Dartford’s defence as they defeated Maidenhead 2-0 to move above their opponents into fifth place in National League South.
