JOHN Marquis scored the opening goal as Northampton took another huge step towards promotion from League Two with a 4-1 win over Carlisle on Saturday.
Marquis headed in Millwall colleague Lee Martin’s cross as Chris Wilder’s side extended their unbeaten league run to 13 games and their advantage over Oxford to 13 points.
The goal was Marquis’ second in four games since his loan move from the Lions.
There were three Millwall youngsters in action in the National League.
Goalkeeper Tom King kept a clean sheet for Braintree as they defeated Eastleigh at the weekend to move up to fourth place in the table.
Noah Chesmain was involved in a dramatic finish with Welling as they went ahead against Cheltenham through Luke Wanadio in injury time, but Dan Holman levelled for the league leaders with the last kick of the game in the 95th minute.
Meanwhile, Alfie Pavey couldn’t help Aldershot avoid a 2-0 defeat at Lincoln City.
