NEIL Harris says he has the option of using Fred Onyedinma up front this season.

Harris this week let John Marquis join Northampton on loan until the end of the campaign. Steve Morison, Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien are the first-choice strikers, with Jamie Philpot providing back-up and thought to be close to making an impact in the first team.

Onyedinma, 19, hasn’t started for Millwall since the arrival of Jed Wallace on loan from Wolves.

Justin Skinner, the Lions U21 manager, has used Onyedinma as a centre-forward recently, and he played there alongside Philpot for periods in the 3-1 defeat to Hull in the Premier League Cup quarter-final on Tuesday.

"Fred has put in some really impressive performances up front for the U21s,” Harris said. “With the pace and the directness that he has and his finishing ability, I could push him forward if need be.

“It could give us something different that we haven’t got in the side.

“We’ve got a really good mix with Steve and Lee and Aiden. Jamie is also a goalscorer who works tirelessly without the ball but one thing we could add to that is real pace.

“Fred could certainly give us that. I feel I’ve got plenty of options and in the short term we’re certainly strong.”

Meanwhile, Harris isn’t saying whether Marquis, out of contract in the summer, will be at Millwall next season.

“We never rule anything out. Decisions will be made on players at the end of the season,” Harris explained.

“My players are extremely professional and dedicated and they work their socks off every day.

“Of course they want to be in the team on a Saturday. As a young man you’re not really going to want to be somewhere where you’re not really pushing week in, week out to start a game.

“John being here next year is a long way off at the moment. That's certainly the case in his thoughts as well because he wants to play regularly.”
