LEE Martin set up the opening goal for John-Joe O’Toole as Northampton defeated York to go five points clear at the top of Sky Bet League Two.

Martin had already cleared Russell Penn’s effort off the line before he supplied the corner for midfielder O’Toole to head the Cobblers in front on their way to a 2-0 win.

Paris Cowan-Hall thought he had scored the equaliser for Wycombe in their 1-0 defeat to Luton, but referee Seb Stockbridge disallowed what would have been his first goal in his second spell at the club. Wycombe dropped to 10th in League Two, two points off the play-off spots.

Noah Chesmain was also on the losing side for Welling at Braintree in the National League, the home side winning 1-0 despite playing almost an hour with 10 men. Welling are in the relegation zone, five points from safety.

Meanwhile, centre-back Christian Mbulu faced his former club Brentwood Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division on Saturday. And it looked like he was going to be on the winning side with Canvey Island leading 3-0 at half-time, but Brentwood scored three times after the break including a last-minute goal to steal a draw.
