MILLWALL boss Neil Harris revealed after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Chesterfield he is hopeful a deal to sign Shane Ferguson can be agreed next week.

Ferguson played the final scheduled game of his extended loan deal at the Proact Stadium, lasting 76 minutes before making way for Joe Martin.

And Harris said he is more hopeful of signing the player on a permanent deal than he was last week.

Harris explained: “It’s officially Shane’s last game. We’re still trying. He’s done really well for us and we’ve had continuous communication with Newcastle.

“Newcastle have been brilliant. I’m a lot more hopeful today than I was last week about trying to do something with Shane.

“It’s clear, and everyone can see, he’s a popular member of the group and his performances have been outstanding for this football club.

“I’ve made no secret, the fact is we’re trying to buy him because we believe in his future development and Newcastle are trying to help us make a deal permanent.

“At this point in time he’s still their player but we’re not giving up hope that there might be a deal agreed this week.
