Preview: Port Vale vs. Millwall

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris will give centre-back Sid Nelson every chance to prove his fitness for tonight’s re-scheduled clash at Port Vale.

Nelson took a knock to the ribs against Crewe on Saturday and was withdrawn in the 51st minute as a result.

The 19-year-old defender suffered heavy bruising after a collision in the Crewe penalty area and was replaced with Byron Webster. Nelson will be assessed later today before Harris makes his team selection.

The loss of Nelson would be a blow, but Harris was relieved to have an experienced defence in place in the later stages of the contest at Gresty Road.

He said: “We have competition for places and Byron has had to be patient. He came on for Sid, like-for-like, and he didn’t put a foot wrong. He looked commanding, assured, comfortable, and he talked really well.

“When you’re leading a game with 20 minutes to go and you’ve got Tony Craig, Carlos Edwards, Mark Beevers and Byron Webster you’re in a fortunate position.

“Sid being Sid he was throwing himself at everything and most of the time he just gets on with it but sometimes it hurts too much.

“So we’ll just have to assess him and see if he’s available.”

Shane Ferguson, who came on for Fred Onyedinma and played on the right wing on Saturday is also in contention for a start, while Edwards should continue at right-back with Shaun Cummings still out with a hamstring injury.

Port Vale, meanwhile, have also won their last two games and sit two points ahead of the Lions in the league table.

Richard Duffy, their former Millwall player, expects a tricky test for his side as they aim to climb into the play-off spots with a win.

The 30-year-old defender told his club’s official website: “Millwall (on Tuesday) is going to be another tough game.

“You want to win all of your home games and then see how many points you can pick up away from home.

“We’ve started well at home but it is still early days and we shouldn’t get too far in front of ourselves.”

Sky Bet match odds

Port Vale 5/4  Draw 12/5  Millwall 21/10

Probable Millwall team:

4-4-2: Archer; Edwards, Webster, Beevers, Craig; Onyedinma, Abdou, Williams, Upson; Morison, O’Brien.

Seriously why would you state Edwards will continue at right back as Cummings is still injured like Cummings will EVER play over Carlos.
