Harris lauds Carlos Edwards' impact in Millwall's JPT win

MILLWALL manager Neil Harris hailed the return of Carlos Edwards in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win against Peterborough on Tuesday night.

Edwards played the full 90-plus minutes on his return to competitive football 344 days after suffering a serious knee injury.

The defender was released in the summer but was allowed to carry on his rehabilitation with the Lions before earning a new deal until January after proving his fitness.

And the Millwall boss is pleased to finally be able to call on Edwards’ experience, something he believes the squad have missed.

“He is a great fellow, and it is great to have him back in the dressing room.” Harris said.

“To have him back in the squad and to have his leadership is brilliant. He’s not a big shouter or talker, but he is calm.

“I think he would be the first to admit there was a little bit of rustiness in him at times, but that'll improve.

“With every game that he plays he will get better.

“He played some lovely passes and a couple of the attacks we had towards the end of the game were balls he played slightly longer into the channel.

“He has the ability and the knowledge to mix his game up.”

Edwards, 36, took to Twitter after the win to express his feelings on his return after almost a year out.

He tweeted: “It felt good to be back, and back to winning ways, long may it continue”

Meanwhile, Harris is pleased that the international break will give his side time to recover from a relentless start to the new campaign.

And the Lions boss hopes that he will soon be able to call on defensive reinforcements with Joe Martin and Shane Ferguson close to a first-team return after their respective injuries.

Harris said: “It’s an opportunity to get players back and recover from the hard work we've done since the end of June.

“And it’s an opportunity to work really hard and get the payers fitter and stronger, and I think that being able to get Joe and Shane fit again will be key for us.”

Once the defence is sorted move on to sort out the striking issues can't afford to loose games 0-1 now need to start creating and scoring goals

This is what happens when we have 'true' quality footballers Neil, they make a big difference on the pitch at the key moments. Appreciate this team is very much a work in progress but getting in maybe two more additions of experienced quality (another CB, Midfield General) and maybe a young prem striker all on loan and we got a great nucleus to start getting points on the board and bringing down our dreadful goal difference that has haunted us for 4 seasons, would love to start seeing a + in that column this season.

We are short of a left sided player since Woolford left, Adam Hamill has become a free agent, could do no worse than see if he is willing to come to the den. We also do need another striker in my opinion.

imho i think you should make carlos captain for the rest of this season neil. as i believe sid and beevers would be a better pairing at cb and martin on the left with craig being able to cover lb and cb when needed!

Injuries aside, I thought the players were meant to be fit before the season started. The break gives all teams the same opportunities to get fitter ans stronger if that's what they need.

@costalion: yes of course your right costa I'm forgetting league 1 is where we are now. The break will allow extra time for players to recover from injuries.

1st of i thought carlos had a woeful game by his stanards.(not blaming him beeing out so long)..and as for being fitter & stronger..didn't we read at the start that we would probably be the fittest & strongest in this league .this was obiously a lie.you only have to look at williams to see that..6 shots at goal all missed as usual so not a great surprise that he headed it in for the goal
