Millwall's Abdou: We need home win to get season going

JIMMY Abdou feels Millwall are close to turning their form around, but admitted to a sense of déjà vu after the Lions went behind again this season.

Neil Harris’ side have conceded the opening goal four times this campaign, coming from behind just once to win at Shrewsbury.

Abdou felt Millwall did well up to Jay O’Shea’s strike 18 minutes into Saturday’s game, but Chesterfield dominated the rest of the half and registered almost 70% possession as the home side failed to trouble Tommy Lee in the visitors’ goal.

Harris said afterwards he is still searching for the right combination of formation and personnel and Abdou vowed that the squad would be working to turn around their form at The Den in particular, starting with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Peterborough tonight.

He said: “It’s a tough time at the minute because we still don’t have any points at home. We have to stay together now.

"We have to concentrate and work hard again to try to get that win at home and get our season going.

“We knew Chesterfield were a good team, they’ve got some good players in their side and we knew it was going to be tough.

“They scored first and I thought in the second half we showed more ambition to win the game. Unfortunately we didn’t so it was quite frustrating."

Abdou came closest to an equaliser when Lee turned away his deflected effort from close range with 15 minutes left, and he echoed his manager’s belief that if the side keeps creating chances eventually the goals will come.

“We’re close to scoring,” the midfielder stressed. “We were on top for a few minutes before they scored but I think after they scored they got back into the game, so it was the same story again.

“If we had scored first it would have been a different game.”

It will come keep the faith. In Harris we trust . We have got we want a team of mainly Wall players . Fred, Aiden, Sid, Craig , Thompson , Powell all hone grown who understand what Millwall is and Jimmy and Carlos who nobody can doubt their commitment . Morro who had shown his desire to play for us taking a pay cut . That is enough for us to bounce back !!

I would rather have a core of Wall youngsters learning week on week with a young intelligent manager than watching , wage thieves that we have had over the last few years . Managed by clowns and scumbags

@Kinet: I agree! If you look at the comments after the Shrewsbury game, everyone was thrilled. Yes we have then had 5 winless games, 4 defeats at home but this is a team in transition. Give Harris some time, no need to be on his back already and this team will come good! Start tonight with a win which will kick start the season!

@MillwallChapman: If they have, his injury history is not that great, have a look on WIKIPEDIA , still that's par as far as Millwall is concerned.

the simple fact is this squad of players aint good enough. So either the manager is at fault for not identifying the problem or he has and the board have not supported him moneywise. I sincerely hope its the latter as NH is one of my all time heroes at the club and i think every supporter wants him to succeed.

Jimmy you're a great professional and always give your all but I swear I'm going to scream if I see any more quotes like this coming out of the club.

It may help Jimmy if you do not always get a nose bleed every time you get sight of the goal ?
I swear players live in a different world than us and just do not know they are s**t.
    `We`re close to scoring` ?????
    Really !!!

Jimmy is stating the bleeding obvious and its just talk to sop off the fans. We need a couple of good signings at least not half baked loanees other clubs want to get off their wages bill.

As for "in Harris we trust", heard all that before too with " in Lomas we trust" and "in Olly we trust", look where that took us, to div 1.
The fault is at the top with the chairman and the board.

@Peckhamlad: Peckham i cannot see JB spending any great amount of money, his view of raising our own talent is still there and AA has said that Millwall are happy with the squad we have,so imo it look's as though the board are hoping to survive this year without spending money, couple of loan signing's perhaps.

@jim1222: from what i have read in the SLP ..signing any player before the deadline is out of the window..harris is looking at the loan market..but said he wont be rushed.(heard that one b4)..instead he may wait till next weeks loan window..also said it could be a loan to a view to buy....so kiss goodbye to the transfer market for a year

@adzhaz24: I am so sorry but I disagree with you regarding Neil turning things round. Unproven, inexperienced, did part of learning coaching under Holloway, great players which truly you were rarely make good managers. His win/lose record is abysmal, your press conferences and comment are becoming more and more Hollowayesce. Four more weeks to turn things round but then we have to act at board level one way or another.

I would so long to be wrong but Harris is more and more reminiscent of a rabbit caught in the spotlight.

Come on Neil prove me wrong!
