Millwall boss Harris: We look like a better team with Jimmy

MILLWALL manager Neil Harris was pleased with the return of midfielder Jimmy Abdou after injury.

Abdou had missed the first two weeks of the new season after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season but returned to action in Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Barnsley.

Abdou played the whole game as the Lions fell to a third home defeat in little over a week, but manager Harris was full of praise for the fit-again midfielder.

“I’m delighted with Jim,” Harris said. “It’s great to have him back in the team and back into the fold.

“We certainly miss him when he isn't on the pitch. At times be looked a little bit rusty regaining the ball but the 90 minutes tonight will stand him in good stead for Saturday.

“He’s been big part of this club for a long time and we look like a better team when he is in it.”

Meanwhile, Harris revealed he took off Shane Ferguson as a precaution in the defeat to Lee Johnson’s Tykes, and he also gave an update on summer signing Joe Martin.

Ferguson came off holding his left hamstring but Harris said he is hoping the Newcastle loanee only had cramp ahead of Saturday’s trip to Glanford Park to take on Scunthorpe United.

Harris said: “Shane Ferguson came off with a hamstring injury so we will have to see how he responds.

“Hopefully it’s just his hamstring cramping up, he certainly ran himself into the ground and couldn’t run any more so we had to adjust.

“Joe Martin isn't going to be available until next week.”

Thee games in NH doesn't know what to talk about yes jimmy made a slight difference he was only midfielder to make challenge but his distribution of ball is shocking . Quote before season started " we going to play high tempo flowing brand of football using full width of larger pitch" the only player using the bigger pitch is forde one long punt up to strikers! Unless I missed some of action we haven't played ball out from defence once the style of football we are playing we be relegated by Easter

Jimmy yes and give Powell a chance!!! Upson and Williams have not once shown a bit of flare or spark since coming here.... What's the point in playing players who have not battled for two seasons.... We look flat in midfield. Powell against Southhampton bossed it over a year ago, surely he has improved and deserves a chance.... Thompson is also a bright spark in our squad. Upson, Forde and Williams need benching full stop.

      @JONO:
Absolutely bang on Re: Powell, what does it take for him to get a look in? I watched him over a year ago for the U21s against a decent Charlton team and he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, and topped it off with a cracker of a free kick into the top corner, a few weeks later he more than held his own against a full strength Southampton team. Add the fact he was very impressive in the pre season games I was convinced he would start the other night yet wasn't even on the bench??

The more I look at Williams the more I'm convinced he's a bad egg as well, rumours are he wanted out in the summer but Harris talked him round. That might be way off the mark but what can't be ignored is his performances have been woeful, and now he took a bit of stick when coming off the other night I think he isn't the type of person to respond well to that. Crying shame really- this time last year he would have been my first name on the team sheet.

@Micky Lions: Apparently he's on the mend and could be playing full back this Saturday.

@TheBermondseyBomber: we should offer him a deal he's a true professional.... I can't see it though, in all honesty I think the board will offer him peanuts after stringing him along all summer..... If we don't offer him a deal, the board and chairman can go f*** IMO

This all sounds as desperation let the football do the talking now only results speak or we will be in a relegation battle again except half this team don't know the meaning of team work and battle

Jimmy Abdou one of Kenny's legacy signings still performing better than some fo the dross brought in by other managers along with Steve Morison. Not surprised there. We look a better team with Abdou in unless.. he picks an injury at the training ground from god knows what they do to eachother down there or poor old Jimmy picks up one too many bookings this season and misses a few games, so what then? Need to sign a couple of tough no-nonsense defenders in the Frampton mould (Framps sit down)... with a little pace as well.

@Bexley_Lion: Spot on my son! Def need 2 tough defenders an pity we couldn't have kept the Hoover (now playing in Sweden...uhmmm nice work if ya can get it!) Been disappointed with TC at centre half and he would prob still be better at left back and as for Webster - he's been a disaster and needs to be shipped out maybe back to Yeovil (one of the few things the Coco the Clown got right). Heard Beevers was on his way to Bradford but suddenly all gone quiet...perhaps his WAG has other ideas!

" The increase in the width of the pitch at the New Den now means Millwall supporters can be even closer to the action when watching their side concede goals to yet another set piece "

I really cannot believe what I read on hear. NH "one bad week does not make a season" is he for real we have had 3 bad seasons. I feel I am being cheated or being treated as an idiot. I think I will give all this bull s**t a swerve. Simple we are not good enough players who are a complete embarrassment to watch. Football is horrible to watch long ball game. I coach my under 9's to keep possession and play out from the back.

A better team but not better enough, we were better than we was against Coventry well what an achievement that was. I guess NH must be referring to the midfield and the attack because the defense was dire again.
We will improve I'm pretty sure of that but only when the defense is sorted, it's that simple in my opinion and the longer it takes more the rest of the team will get unsettled and disgruntled. So come on Neil sort it asap if you have the means, not your fault if you don't. We know your hurting as much if not more than the rest of us and we know you have the desire to do your best for the club. Everyone knows the defense is not fit for purpose that's not hard to work out what we don't know is what we can do about it with our limited 3rd biggest budget in the division. We have to ask the question could anyone else do any better with the players we have. I would never call for NH to be sacked but as others have suggested a bit of help from someone with experience might help.

You are a legend of this club, we want you to have success and take this young band of players with so much potential to greater heights. But please do give us platitudes and half baked comments.

Stick to the task and give us some deeper and more honest appraisal and analysis of where the team are heading.

I am a bit concerned you will show up wearing a flat cap after the next incurring a few more losses.
