Millwall boss Harris: We look like a better team with Jimmy

MILLWALL manager Neil Harris was pleased with the return of midfielder Jimmy Abdou after injury.

Abdou had missed the first two weeks of the new season after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season but returned to action in Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Barnsley.

Abdou played the whole game as the Lions fell to a third home defeat in little over a week, but manager Harris was full of praise for the fit-again midfielder.

“I’m delighted with Jim,” Harris said. “It’s great to have him back in the team and back into the fold.

“We certainly miss him when he isn't on the pitch. At times be looked a little bit rusty regaining the ball but the 90 minutes tonight will stand him in good stead for Saturday.

“He’s been big part of this club for a long time and we look like a better team when he is in it.”

Meanwhile, Harris revealed he took off Shane Ferguson as a precaution in the defeat to Lee Johnson’s Tykes, and he also gave an update on summer signing Joe Martin.

Ferguson came off holding his left hamstring but Harris said he is hoping the Newcastle loanee only had cramp ahead of Saturday’s trip to Glanford Park to take on Scunthorpe United.

Harris said: “Shane Ferguson came off with a hamstring injury so we will have to see how he responds.

“Hopefully it’s just his hamstring cramping up, he certainly ran himself into the ground and couldn’t run any more so we had to adjust.

“Joe Martin isn't going to be available until next week.”

      Thee games in NH doesn't know what to talk about yes jimmy made a slight difference he was only midfielder to make challenge but his distribution of ball is shocking . Quote before season started " we going to play high tempo flowing brand of football using full width of larger pitch" the only player using the bigger pitch is forde one long punt up to strikers! Unless I missed some of action we haven't played ball out from defence once the style of football we are playing we be relegated by Easter

    Jimmy yes and give Powell a chance!!! Upson and Williams have not once shown a bit of flare or spark since coming here.... What's the point in playing players who have not battled for two seasons.... We look flat in midfield. Powell against Southhampton bossed it over a year ago, surely he has improved and deserves a chance.... Thompson is also a bright spark in our squad. Upson, Forde and Williams need benching full stop.

      @JONO:
      Absolutely bang on Re: Powell, what does it take for him to get a look in? I watched him over a year ago for the U21s against a decent Charlton team and he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, and topped it off with a cracker of a free kick into the top corner, a few weeks later he more than held his own against a full strength Southampton team. Add the fact he was very impressive in the pre season games I was convinced he would start the other night yet wasn't even on the bench??

      The more I look at Williams the more I'm convinced he's a bad egg as well, rumours are he wanted out in the summer but Harris talked him round. That might be way off the mark but what can't be ignored is his performances have been woeful, and now he took a bit of stick when coming off the other night I think he isn't the type of person to respond well to that. Crying shame really- this time last year he would have been my first name on the team sheet.
