Harris happy with Millwall squad but could buy again

MILLWALL'S injured trio Aiden O’Brien, Joe Martin and Jimmy Abdou should all be back in contention in the next two weeks to boost Neil Harris’ options.

Harris is “happy” with his squad but hasn’t ruled out adding more signings before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

Martin’s injury has seen Mark Beevers pressed into action at left-back while Ed Upson and Shaun Williams have been the regular midfield partnership through pre-season and again against Shrewsbury and Barnet.

The Lions were linked with Shrewsbury centre-back Jermaine Grandison last week before he committed his future to Micky Mellon’s side the day before the start of the season.

O’Brien’s injury has left Harris short up front. John Marquis started against Barnet on Tuesday night before Lee Gregory came off the bench to add extra combativeness to the attack.

Harris was disappointed with the manner of the defeat to Martin Allen’s League Two side but wasn’t making any snap statements about the need to urgently bring in new players.

“I’m really happy with my squad,” he said. “But if we feel the need to strengthen an area then we will.

“We have some players out injured at the moment but they are short-term injuries.

“Aiden, Joe and Jimmy will all be back in the group in the next seven to fourteen days and we look forward to having them back.

“It’ll give me some more good options. Once they’re back in we’ll have a much stronger squad.

“We will learn from our mistakes the other night. We concede goals as a team and we score goals as a team and if I talk to an individual it’s to help him improve.”

Be nice to see a strong midfield centre one more would hopefully give us options and competitive players for positions. At least we are still looking

I think a major boost our side would be finding an ideal midfield partner for Ed Upson. I reckon there's goals in him given the freedom to get forward. Williams is OK next to him but his laid back , comfortable on the ball style slows things down.
Perhaps Jimmy next to Upson is the missing ingredient ??

@Block 8: preferably a couple of forwards , Morison and Greggs will do well then we have nothing below them if they get injured.

Joey Barton it is then if we are looking for a Hurlock replacement. I am only joking wages would crush the club but good for media coverage.

When AOB is fit we need one other striker another target forward, watching the two games defo need to strengthen the midfield as the opposition is slipping through, Barnet second goal OMG defo handball and he knocked forward cant believe it. Nice to have a cup run but league is priority 1

Don't rate Webster and playing Beevers at left back is not going to work IMO so that experiment should be hit on the head.
What we're crying out for is a Hurlock type in midfield. Someone with a bit of steel and a link man with the forwards. What Marquis is still doing at Millwall is beyond me. The soonewr he's loaned out the better.

@NICKOLA: Harris must be mates with Marquis, another year of decent money with no return for the club.

we haven't had a strong battling midfielder since Trotter left, I think that's what we've been missing for the last few seasons, someone to break up attacks and get forward with a bit of strength

After releasing 16-18 players and bringing in just 5 or so I would be surprised if Neil did not bring in a couple more.
Personally an attacking midfield who can chip in with some goals would be good.

Go in for the Barnet forward Akinde, he seemed to cause Millwall's defence many problems as reported on here.

@Peckhamlad: Totally agree, went past Webster as if he wasn't there. Looked a beast and that's what we need. Williams was a CB at MK Dons, so why not try him there and get a decent holding midfield player who can put some bite into the team.

Yeah the club should tell them to f.cuk right off after the way they took the p*** out of us over Hanson. Knowing our board though they'll roll over and get our tummy tickled again.

@Still_Wall: I'd rather he went and if they didn't want to sell Hanson that's up to them , but if they want to throw Hanson into the mix then all well and good .

Nah b***** to them. Beevers is a good player, especially at this level and is versatile too, the reason smug nuts Parkinson wouldn't let go of Hanson is cos he knew we are a direct rival and Hanson would've enhanced our squad greatly, now it's vice versa with Beevers. He would go there and make them a stronger outfit without doubt, say we missed out on the play offs by a point to bradford? This is exactly why leeds wouldn't let us have smith last year. Beevers had already proved valuable to the squad in the first week of the season, with him about we know we've got decent cover for the left side of defence.

The way they treated us over Hanson I wouldn't sell them Beevers or anyone else. Our squad is bare enough without selling one of our more versatile players. We need to get players in not out.

    @NPEgentlemansclub:
Your right keep current squad and in new CB,LB,CM and LF any ideas?

Becchio would be good and Sawyers.

at least 2-3 more signing to add and Streghen up the squad just a little.

Ideally i'd like to see a player that can play right centre half with a bit of pace, think we missed the boat with Grandison from Shrewsbury. Also another winger / box 2 box midfielder wouldn't go a miss either.

Get Trotter back in, no brainer at this level. Sid not ready yet so cover for Beevs, TC and Webby a must. I think Joe Martin is the real deal whilst Cummings just needs to sort his positioning out. Sorry but JM ain't up to it, give him back to G'ham. Agree with earlier post that Upson ahead of Williams all day long with Jimmy or Trotter alongside him. Another 10 goal a season pro as back up tp Gregs, Moro and AOB. Fancy a 2-0 this Sat.
