Millwall confirm signing of Steve Morison on one-year deal

MILLWALL have confirmed the capture of striker Steve Morison from Leeds United for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old has signed an initial one-year deal with the Lions after agreeing terms and passing a medical this afternoon.

Morison, who joined the club for the first time from Stevenage in 2009, will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s League One opener at Shrewsbury Town.

As reported earlier by NewsAtDen, Neil Harris has finally added a target man to compete with John Marquis, Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien for a place in the side.

The Millwall manager told the club’s official website: “We have had to be very patient to get one of our main transfer targets over the summer.”

“To get it completed before the season starts is excellent and that is a result of a lot of support from the chairman.

“Ultimately, though, it was Steve’s desire to come back to Millwall which was the biggest thing of all.”

An undisclosed ...(assume nothing) fee for a player who put half a shift in last time, who did not make the leeds first team last year ....left it to the last minute to check out all options .no one else, (including leeds ) wanted him, signed for a year, and some idiot wants to start praising Berylson....Whilst I still remember Steve fondly from first time aroumd...that audacious attempt to chip the keeper at Wembley v Swindon, was inches away from being the second most spectacular goal at the new Wembley after Gary Alexanders...it dosent start to paper over the cracks

I agree the positions he played under coco weren't right, which certainly contributed to him not scoring. just hope he is back with a positive attitude and feels playing for millwall is as much an honour and supporting is for us. like I said, I will be there to cheer him on

Good news to get a striker in one who knows milllwall in and out like Harris but I can't help but think this is a poor deal paying a fee for someone and giving them just a years deal if he fancies it by January he can up and leave on a pre contract deal and the fee was pointless if you pay for someone I feel they should be given a 2 year deal minimum COYL

Good start to sorting out forward line, could do with another strong attacking midfielder, rather than having to many holding defensive midfielders as we know you can't play Abdou and Williams in the middle if you are playing 442 week in week out, as there is no creativity. Plus bringing in a left sided winger would not go a miss, with a cover for LB an addition. If Carlos does get fit, and offered a contract, Then believe we have an amiable squad. My only concern is the fella between the goal posts !!!!!

I assume none of us know the deal. My best guess would be no fee but match his wages or if we have a wage cap to compensate for FFP a sign on fee. I can only say that looks like a much better deal than Hanson. He knows the club he and Neil obvious know each other and Bomber is confident he can get the best from him. I have a really good feeling about him and Gregs with the youngsters this year. Allowing for injuries I think we have real chance of top six.

Took some stick last time here (some deserved) but has come back to hopefully prove what he can do.
My reservations on age are tempered by the fact that this a easier league, where he has previously done well.

Surely he will do well in lge 1, I like the fact that he is on a one year deal so he would need to perform to earn another contract, AOB will be our top player imo this season but we have quite a few attacking options now with Phillpot and Pavey as well,
Shrewsbury have Tyronne Barnett up front, a big lump has I remember so we need to get the defence sorted, it is certainly not a settled

I don't really care about his attitude as long it doesn't cause discontentment amongst the rest of the team and he puts the round leather thing between the oppositions goal posts on a regular basis.
Think of some the great players a lot of them had/ have "bad" attitude, R. Marsh, E, kung fu Cantona,
John Macenroe ;), to name but a few.
S.M plays for us , he is now a Millwall player so lets put our prejudices to one side for now at least and big him up best we can and if he don't do the bizz well lets not go there.
The future is looking a little brighter now. I.K.I.A.I.S.I.A. I'm Millwall till I die.

Hanson is just a big lump with a poor scoring record, I know Morison has not set the world on fire either in recent seasons but with regular game time and especially in L1 I would put my house on him getting more than Hanson. Morison has more to his game and is better on the deck and we all know what he can do. All I can say is is good luck Steve, great to have you back ,lets all get behind him and show him the support he has been missing.

Yes extremely happy he has returned. Apparently known as 'the shift' to a lot of Weed fans because of the work he put in and in any position. Very good in the air, fit, knows where the goal is, and should bring the others into play. Don't forget he also helps out in defence from corners and seen him clear many a cross. Compare him with some of our forwards last season, no comparison I say. Get in there Morison and show them all what your capable of. COYL

My memory aint what it used to be but as I recall S.M. scored some goals from very tight angles and as previously posted by others has a lot of other attributes to his game and not everyone appreciates that side of him and are maybe to quick to moan if he doesn't score for a couple of games.
So in answer to my own question, for me, it has to be the big blonde bombshell STEEEEEEVE MOOOORRISON.

“Ultimately, though, it was Steve’s desire to come back to Millwall which was the biggest thing of all.”
Sniff sniff sniff, is that cow or b******* I can smell? I think he could be good for us but I'm under no illusion that we wouldn't have been his first choice. On form, he could be the difference between promotion and relegation! Hope he realises the expectations we have of him, ex prem player and all!

@Geoff the lion: You have been watching too much fools and horses. Who cares if we were not his first choice, surely he has the right to do whats right for his family and try to get the best offer available. Lets just be happy he is now with us, ask yourself this, what is more important to you, your football club or your family?

@LETEMCOME: If playing for his own personal benefit means he score 20 goals for us this season, I am OK with that. The concern I have is will he lose motivation and desire if things don't go well for him or will he roll his sleeves up and keep fighting for his team mates?

@LETEMCOME: not sure what fools and horses has to do with it! but back to your question. yes you are right, I would always want whats best for my family. the difference is regardless of where I work or what I do, I would always try to the best of my ability. next time you pay your hard earned money and watch a primadona on more money a month than you can earn in a year, strolling around the pitch like a spare part, take comfort that his family are well sorted. it cracks me up that so many people on here only a few weeks ago were totally against him coming back. now, they speak of him as a god. unlike those, I have a long memory and it was people like him, got us relegated and deeper in debt. no im not jumping for joy, but I wish him well, he will have my support, and lets pray he turns out to be the missing link

@rob hearn: we loaned him back in 2009, I vaguely remembered him as well and can't remember why we didn't sign him permanently. I don't know if he was any good back then but he's 30 now so no spring chicken and he's not the tallest either, so maybe not the target man we are looking for.

@glyngo: We didn't sign him permanently I think because he was useless, big time Charlie and upset the dressing room. can't believe we are looking at him again.

The more I think about morison coming back and being up front with greggs the more I'm starting to think this could work big time, I'm just worried about our defence yet again, and forde, give archer a chance surely.

Great signing. The best we could realistically hope for. He knows the club, he knows us the fans, he's a goal scorer and importantly he wanted to be here. Should be a great boost to the squads morale and he's probably the best striker in league 1. His goals will definitely keep us up!

I've not posted on here for a while but thought that I had to give my two-penneth worth.
    Firstly welcome back Steve Morrison.
Secondly last time he was here he was asked to play out of position, up front on his own, tackle back, defend corners and sit on the bench for the previous two numpties.
Steve Morrison is a quality striker who suits 4_4_2 playing up top running on to through balls.
The last decent one he got was from Liam Trotter against Blackpool at home about 3 seasons ago.

If you play the right system he will give you a return on your investment.
All the training ground rubbish about his so called attitude means nothing to me.
Last time he was here I can understand his frustration most supporters who go every home game were screaming for 4_4_2 under Coco because that's what suits Morro.
It speaks volumes that Steve wanted to come back and lastly having met him on a few occasions he is a down to earth decent bloke without this so called attitude.
But the above is just my opinion

@MillwallGra: Best post i've read about Morrison, exactly right, he is quality and must want to play for us cos i cant see us topping any other club with wages etc.. he will work all day long, but give him the right service and he will win us games, and will give Gregory some space as well.

        Thanks
I'm really looking forward to this season and I sincerely hope that the fans give Super Neil and his slimmed down squad on a shoe string budget a chance.

@MillwallGra: I was going to post ut you said everything I wanted to say MillwallGra. His attitude stunk last time but he was played out of posistionand lets be honest the fans had given up on Holloway so imagine what it must be like if you saw the clown distoring your career. Trust Bomber to get the best from him. Great post.

I can't believe their are people on here having a pop at Morison. Cancel that, yes I can. I am sure there were a few Championship clubs interested in Morro but he wanted to come back to us. Also he has not got to deal with Farmer clueless he now has a manager who knows what it is like to be a quality striker. Everyone on here loves Millwall so lets all get behind Bomber, Morro and the team. No one likes us we don't care.COYL

@NPEgentlemansclub: I can believe it! We have a minority of very brain dead supporters! Who obviously haven't a scooby. Like when you come out the ground and some of our own supporters have put thru our own fans car windows because we lost or failing that fighting each other! Another reason a lot of people don't go anymore!

How anyone can s*** off morison is beyond me! He's come from Leeds to millwall! He's obviously hungry and I'm sure there were championship teams he could of gone to! he should score for fun in this league as long as he is given the service and if fred and up son are on song I'm sure that will happen. But let's not get carried away! It may take a few seasons to get back up there!

Very happy with this signing. I think Morison and Gregory will be a great partnership, and Bomber will get the best out of what we have left of him. Now if everyone can get behind the team and manager then perhaps we can stand a chance.

I find it funny that after investing in a new recruitment director and restructuring the scouting group as well as investing in databases of thousands of players, our major signing this Summer is a striker that's been with us twice before! Hahahahaha brilliant

Good signing in my opinion but still feel short changed by my beloved club, watching that live 92 yesterday and wittnessing all the investment by other clubs even at a lower level makes me a little jealous. On that note got to take your hat off to Bradford dropping season tickets to £199 and selling 18k. doing the maths I make it they would make enough profit to buy a scoreboard and still make more than if they only sold half that amount

Hats off to Morro - he is 31 and he has come back to Wall when needed. Remember Wall got Morro from non league and helped made him a relatively rich man. Why would he come back he could have gone to MLS America or a much bigger club - he has signed a 1 year deal to keep his options open and that is fair enough. Don't know how much this has cost Wall but money well spent I think so anyway regardless of what you moaners think already about him coming back. Not sure how Morro and Gregs will line up - but Morro will know been to prem clubls played for Wales yep thanks Morro -
welcome back and best wishes. Got your picture and photo for man of the match or something like that in hospitality a while back and yep you sure look a handful in size and statue lets hope you can smash Div 1 with lots of goals. GO GO MORRO.................................
