JIMMY Abdou has signed a new two-year deal with Millwall.

The midfielder, who will turn 31 in July, joins John Marquis, Aiden O’Brien and Sid Nelson in committing his future to the club this summer.

The news will be a further boost for Lions fans, who voted Abdou the club’s player of the year last season.

The Comoros international joined Millwall  in 2007 from Plymouth Argyle and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the club.

Boss Neil Harris told Millwall’s website: “Jimmy is an integral part of the club and has been for a long time now. I’m absolutely delighted that his contract is all sorted.

“He epitomises what we are about in terms of his work-rate, his energy, his enthusiasm and the way in which he leads by example.

“Jimmy’s enthusiasm for the game is infectious and his attitude is top drawer.

“It will be really key next season that we utilise that, especially in terms of our style of play. We want to get the ball forward and work up the pitch and Jimmy is very important to that.”

@Jim28: I reckon out of the players we have, Ed Upson would be a good shout. Didn't he capt Wycombe a few times as well?

Good to see jimmy staying at the club. He defines the word millwall and deserves to be made captain for next year.

im not sure if many know about his young boy who has Leukemia, i never did find out if he pulled through or not? but im sure it was around 3 seasons ago his boy had to go to hospital for an operation! jimmy said to the club that he would be back as quick as possible so the team didn't suffer and he didn't want to miss any games. but he said obviously my son comes first! that's the sort of guy we've just signed. what other player do you know that would care about the club that much? he'd do anything for us ffs in my eyes he's a millwall legend and above that a f****** great bloke! everyone goes on about the past legends well we got one playing for us right now. and im sure we won't see another like him in a f****** long time. 100% respect to abdou, best news so far since harris took over.

    It great news.
What I'd love to see is , jimmy and Ed Upson both on the centre midfield. A blinding partnership that would be in league one.

After the Wigan goal, I can actually see Jimmy scoring more goals next season, could be just the man to sit in midfield break up play and arrive in the box at the right time. Make him captain, he leads by example which is what a captain does, the fans love him, and as I said before all this stuff about not being vocal enough is nonsense every player should be vocal. Great news.
