MILLWALL defender Mahlon Romeo has been called up to the Antigua and  Barbuda squad for their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against St Lucia.

Romeo signed for the Lions from Gillingham last month after spells at Arsenal and Wycombe.

Antigua and Barbuda are ranked 104th in the world and compete in the North, Central American and Caribbean section of qualifying.

If they come through the two legs, which take place on June 10 and 14, they will advance to the third round before a potential group stage featuring the likes of the United States and Mexico.

The 19-year-old right-back signed a one-year deal with Millwall in May and is expected to start his career with the club in the development squad.

    Oh Romeo. What's in a name? That which we call a defender by any other name would smell as sweet . .

    Any additional experience this kid can pick up, especially the pressure of a WCQ two leg elimination tie, can only benefit him and Millwall. Go on and beat St. Lucia Romeo!

    If he plays well at international level I hope our new regime don't let him go for peanuts when the big boys come knocking.

      @LETEMCOME:
      To be fair, the level of 'international' matches he will be playing isn't great and probably on a par with Jimmy playing for the Comoros Islands. Besides, he's just came to us from gillingham, so let's not pile the pressure on him just yet. Me and you could turn out for Antigua.

        @82wall: know what you mean 82.Iam not trying to put pressure on the kid,it just enjoys me when a young player shows promise and a big club comes in with a poor offer knowing that the likelihood is he will want the chance to join them (who wouldn't) and we accept the fee. That's football I suppose. Just wish we could demand more.

        @82wall: in any case because of his youth any fee would go to a tribunal???

          Yea would have thought that's the case unless he's been released and was a free agent, not too sure how we worked it.
