League One rivals Gillingham in hunt for Millwall's Marquis

GILLINGHAM have reportedly offered Millwall striker John Marquis a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old signed on loan for the Gills last January and went on to score eight goals in 18 starts for Justin Edinburgh’s side.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender guided the club to 12th place in Sky Bet League One last season, just seven points off a playoff spot.

Marquis has been offered a new contract by Millwall boss Neil Harris and must now weigh up both offers.

The Lions are also in the hunt for a new striker after struggling in front of goal last season.

Marquis joined the club in 2009 and has scored six goals in 22 starts.

I can't say I'm too bothered either way. O'Brien, IMO, is a much better prospect and given time, I believe he could play at a higher level, hopefully with us. I have never seen anything in Marquis that makes me believe he is anything other than a L1 player. He's not quick, he's not that strong and he's not exceptional technically. He had a good time playing for gillingham and I'm pleased for him; he found his level. I know that is now our level, but if we are serious about promotion, but I would hope for someone who has the promise to perform at a higher level.

Depends whether you think our current forwards need any competition or not.
Personally I do, there's nothing like a hungry striker breathing down your neck for your place.
    Let's see who he chooses.

If we have offered a contract and he has not signed, then let him go.
We want players that want to be here and we have seen enough of him to not be too worried about him going.
Go get a goalscorer Bomber to go with our youngsters.

IMO we need a player like Hanson of bradford, when we played them he was all over our back 4, strong in the air, headed the ball properly, not just flick ons, brought his team into the game, held the ball up, and dragged beevers into getting sent off at their place, marquis will never evolve into this type, and dont forget, after his initial goal spree he was on the bench for the last number of games! But Harris must see something in him!.

One goal in nearly every four games that's the stats you need to look at

Sorry I know it will upset a few but that's not what we need

Coz he's under 24 gillingham can have him for free. But if we offer him a contract then I think gillingham would have to pay a fee for him. Might be the reason behind the contract offer.

JM, is a very different player to O'Brien, they play differently and do different jobs. I actually see them combining well, depending Gregory hitting his straps or not.

All agent talk to get JM a better deal just like the f........k.....ng railways striking on a bank hokiday weekend this is just revenge for labour getting stuffed and SNP trying to become independent.
Still Rangers won last night so did Juventus and Arsenal and Sunderland staged a draw suited them both. To much talk on here how good it all is we are going to do this and that nearly June and we do not have a team let alone one to challenge for Championsip - they all need to get a move on JB,AA,NH,
THE RECRUITER, LIVERS and the kit man really need to up their game - if I hear anymore about the youngsters how good they are what they are going to do etc etc they have not done anything yet- I will go mad. Self praise is no praise and that it how it seems to me - roll on the Johnstone Paint Trophy WeMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

@Mekongriver: What have a train strike, Labour and the SNP got to do with football? And people are hardly going to talk about Rangers, Juventus, Arsenal or Sunderland when this is a Millwall website. You can hardly complain about the talk only revolving around Millwall.

So what if they keep repeating about how youth is the future, I'm sure pretty much everyone will agree that's the way we want this club to go, and so far the younger players have impressed. And what the hell has the kit man got to do with recruitment?
