Shaun Williams to miss Millwall's three remaining fixtures

MILLWALL midfielder Shaun Williams will sit out the final three games of the season after fracturing his foot against Wigan last week.

Physio Bobby Bacic says the 28-year-old's injury, sustained when he slid into an advertising hoarding, is "more common in snowboarders landing from height rather than footballers."

Williams missed Saturday's goalless draw with Cardiff and, speaking after the game, interim manager Neil Harris confirmed the Irishman will play no further part this season.

Harris was also asked about the outlook for right back Shaun Cummings, who picked up a groin problem during the 2-0 win over the Latics.

The Lions boss said: "Williams won't play again for us this season, which is a big loss, and Cummings is having intensive treatment to see whether he can be available at all this week.

"We're not sure but it is unlikely."

Bacic, speaking to the club's official site, added: "We will give another update on Williams' condition after he has a review with the surgeon, but we expect to let the bone heal naturally."

As long as we have Bailey fit for the rest of the season, I don't see this as that much of a loss. Good player but Bailey can boss the middle of the park for us. Away at Blackburn and Wolves, I'd say we need Bailey in the middle even if Williams was fit.

no great loss, we always have these Liam Trotter types who stroll round the pitch & Williams has been strolling far to much this season, distinct lack of commitment on the pitch, would much rather Upson, Bailey or Jimmy than Williams!

I wouldn't say Williams shows lack of effort he's a different type
Of player he can pick up passes others can't and is by far our best free kicks taker. Bailey is a true battler which might be what we need but so is Jimmy we need a balance of fight and skilled passing ability but let's see how we get on without our 2 best midfielders we already did worse without them against Cardiff.

@spartacus: I actually think Maggie could be our best free kick taker. His accuracy and his left foot seems much better than Williams but that's just my opinion.

@coldblowlane87: Your mental, Williams and trotter are not the same player. Williams can play ball and hasnt been as bad as half the s*** in this team all year.
Its a massive loss, Williams is our best CM at this club. the gezza can play ball. If there is a switch of play or a calm head in front of the back four then you want williams there. I dont see what some of you watch sometimes...

I want to see a midfielder track back and tackle, Williams is a luxury player, the amount of times I watch him stroll back when the opposition are attacking is ridiculous! He also gets caught on the ball a lot, he does have a good pass, but not enough effort IMO.

@coldblowlane87: i think that's down to a severe lack of pace more than a lack of commetment. I always watch him as he's probably my favourite player at the moment, and he's always bursting veins in his forehead trying to chase the ball, but he just can't because he has the pace of a dopey tortois. I think that red card against bournemouth was the worst thing that could have happened to him because he's really lost form since then. Before that, no one could get past him.

@neilwall: I dont see how your calling him lazy, He is box to box and controls play. A good passer doesnt guarantee a place in the team but i dont think he tries to look pretty nor do i think he is lazy.
