Slade: Cardiff expect "ultra-competitive" Millwall challenge

RUSSELL Slade expects Millwall to be "ultra-competitive" against his Cardiff side tomorrow, with the Lions fighting for their Championship lives.

Slade has overseen just two home wins from a possible 12 during his time in charge of the Bluebirds, prompting some fans to turn against the ex-Leyton Orient gaffer.

And he is braced for another testing afternoon at the Cardiff City Stadium when Millwall come to town.

Victory over Wigan in midweek has given the Lions a fighting chance of staying up but they need to back that up with another good result and performance.

"Millwall will play with a real urgency and a real tempo. Since Neil Harris has taken over, the effort they're putting now as a group has been very good," Slade told WalesOnline.

"That's made them competitive, even ultra competitive in the last few games.

"They look like they're embracing [their situation] and they seem as if they're up for the challenge. Whether that has come too late remains to be seen.

"The game ought to be and probably will be an open affair."

The Lions' trip to South Wales comes amid a Football League inquiry into claims Rotherham fielded an ineligible player in their win over Brighton on April 6.

And Slade says the possibility of a points deduction for the Millers gives Harris' troops an added incentive heading into the final weeks of the season.

"There certainly is light at the end of the tunnel," he added. "On the back of Rotherham incident, we're still waiting for the FA to take action, that could have a massive impact.

"Of course that could carry a financial penalty but also a points penalty. I'm sure Millwall will have be big interest in regards to that."
