Millwall manager has Abdou dilemma ahead of Owls clash

MILLWALL boss Ian Holloway is considering his options at right back ahead of tonight's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Jimmy Abdou filled in for the injured Shaun Cummings against Fulham at the weekend and helped the Lions keep a clean sheet.

But Holloway says there are other candidates in his squad who may be better-suited to facing the Owls.

"Jimmy was right for Fulham because I thought they were going to play a diamond," he said.

"He never lets us down and he's been training at right back over the past couple of weeks just in case.

"Fulham didn't have an out-and-out winger so Jimmy could go forward and get some crosses in. I'm going to have to think again for our next game.

"I don't want to move Alan Dunne to right back again so I have to look at Justin Hoyte and Josh Siafa to see if I can utilise them. I might have to.

"It's all about balance and who else can you actually get now [on loan]? That's the problem."

@coldblowlane87: Totally agree with that comment, Jimmy may not be the best player but he always gives it his all and his heart is in the badge, not in the money unlike a lot of other players....Hoyte etc...

@coldblowlane87: Beevers did a good job at LB at Forest and then got ruined by Scannel for Huddersfield. You play players in there right positions. Jimmy was missing from every Fulham attack out wide he kept coming inside. If a wanger goes out side he will get ruined and we will loose, you don't really want that for Jimmy do you. He's not a right back. Hoyte is Id play Hoyte and we can all lynch him if he don't put a performance in. It's about time he started repaying us.

Good thinking definately play Hoyte his brilliant! No actually play the 18year old that's never played before. I'm a fan of yours Holloway and appreciate what your trying to achieve but even I think this is a ridiculous thing to come out with. Do you feel you have to make comments the whole time? Is it something to do with having to be centre of attention? Just get on with it and concentrate on getting one of your 5 strikers to score a goal

If Hoyte values whats left of his professional football career and wants to carry on playing football come the end of his time with us then he better play completely out of his shell if selected tonight...

Wednesday will be a much stronger physical challenge compared to Fulham, I can understand why he might want a stronger player there, but Hoyte....I can't see him standing up to be counted.

Jimmy is More than capable to deal with a winger down his side.... Harding on the other hand, well we have a problem there. He has not impressed me at all since joining. Saturday i thought he was shocking.

I actually agree with Holloways point about Sheff Wed being a different kettle of fish - not sure I'd be happy playing Hoyte there - just bite the bullet and play Dunne at right back with Beevers and Jos in the middle!!

Siafa has already made his debut in the cup and he's 20 not 18.. So, in actual fact he isn't a "kid" like O'Brien isn't a youngster either!!
Again the problem with this club and a lot of the fans.. Our so called "kids" don't get a chance, everyone complains then when it's suggested they might be given a game, the same people complain their too young!!!
    CAN NOT WIN!!!!
By the age of 20-21 the so called kids at a club of our size and budget should have had plenty of games under their belts by now

Risky playing either of them, considering they haven't played championship level football in a while... Ollie could be overthinking this one a bit - he wants someone more defensive minded in the role, but wouldn't it work just to adjust Jimmys 'orders' so to speak and tell him to stay back a bit more than usual. I don't know, depends on his defensive ability I suppose..?

No risk Luke, the rest of the team haven't played championship level football for a while either.

      They should fit right in!

Hollowhead - stop trying to outthink the opposition - you have failed miserably all season.
For once play YOUR best time (if you know it) - or ask the supporters - they plainly know a lot more than you.
I am trying to help - and be positive - but if you hadnt noticed the bigger problem is at the other end of the pitch

To a certain extent I can understand what Ollie is thinking, but he doesn´t say it: Wednesday are a big side and he doesn´t want Jimmy to be over-run. However, more tinkering with the back four!! This will stop after the last game of the season I suppose! I thought the wasters, moaners and money thieves had gone by now, but Hoyte hangs on!

Personally, I think just tell Jimmy to hold it back bit
    regarding bombing on.
The real problem is, what is his striking line up tonight?
    We...need.... GOALS!

Good luck tonight, and hope we get the three points.
Others around us have tough games, so a chance to get closer.

What are you on about man. When we played Nottingham Forest at home, they had wingers, they were on fire at the time, Carlos got injured and Jimmy did a fantastic job. Your constant ramblings are treating us with contempt

Might be good to give Josh an outing he is a good and upcoming young player, never seen Hoyte play so can't judge. Holloway ought to be more concerned about the lack of goals and problems up front. Is he still sticking just to the one striker (so called) or will he at last play two up front? Holloway still experiments and has no clear idea of what formation to play. Hopeless.

Master tactician that he is-I reckon he's going to solve this problem by playing three at the back. Two centre halves and a left back.
    Simples.

    this can,t be true,
    1) siafa played for the u21 last night at cardiff so if he was thinking this he would not have travelled ,like o,brian ,nelson ,powell never travelled.
    2) hoyte has not played for the last 3 games for the u21,s and not sure if he is even training with the first team .
think he is not even down with shitu trainging with the u18.

@jim1222: I was in block 3 jim and to be honest from where I was sitting thought that jimmy shot that rather than passed to Gregory like when jimmy was in the exact same spot later in the first half and screwed his shot up , jimmy is a millwall legend but IMO I think he shouldn't be in the starting 11

Didn't Jimmy play a blinder against a tricky winger earlier on in the season when asked to fill in at right back!! This just goes to show IH is struggling, all this chopping & changing is leaving our team unsettled and causes problems as players can't get used to playing together, and it goes to show were we are right now, they should worrying how we're gonna line up, were at home FFS, he played well Saturday so obviously drop him!!!

@sjk1768: The forest game was so long ago and a zillion of IH changes away how do you expect IH to remember how anyone played way back then,
I have the answer to the problem, let's play the overwieght ,cant run Fletcher from liecester at right back, then move him to mid-field when we go 2-0 down, bring Hoyte on at centre forward and put hoff in goal with forde going on the wing.
I know this is a stupid post but it just about sums up the way IH thinks.
OK ollie prove me wrong tonight or just sod off and give someone else a chance to get us out of the mire.

If not get rid of him to!..why is it Holloway always plays to the opposition's strengths, worrying about what other teams r doing.what he tries to do is crazy & doesn't happen ANYWHERE else!..change players every single game just to try & counteract other teams! How about getting ur best side & best formation settled & giving some of these muggy championship teams something to worry about..but please please not hoyte ever again

What exactly is the problem of moving Dunne to RB??
Then use either Nelson, Shittu, Beevers in CB with Jos. all better options than Hoyte or even Jimmy out of position.

Just stick a RB in the RB position a CB in the CB position and goalscorer up front.
