Millwall poised to land Leicester striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher

EXPERIENCED forward Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who enjoyed success under Ian Holloway at Blackpool, is poised to join Millwall on loan from Leicester City.

The Lions have agreed a deal with the Foxes for the 33-year-old and he is understood to have given the move the thumbs up.

The finer details are expected to be worked out tomorrow with a view to the striker taking part in training on Friday.

A source close to Taylor-Fletcher said the former Huddersfield Town frontman is "looking forward to the challenge" of keeping Millwall in the Championship.

Holloway had targeted his former Bloomfield Road charge during the January transfer window but now looks as though he will get his man on an emergency loan.

Taylor-Fletcher, who made 21 appearances for Leicester in their title-winning campaign last year, spent four weeks at Sheffield Wednesday in September.

@bazlion08: @southstandview: But what a wealth of experience they have between them, they could apply for a bus pass, winter fuel allowance and much more they could bring to the club, its a joke, but I know he is serious about it, so the jokes on us then.
If we manage to stay this has all got to change as we deserve better after 3 years of this, its hard going paying money to watch what is being served up week in week out. COYL!!!!

    Play O'brien and Gregory.
Give O'brien a chance in this league. Our youth players will never make it in this league without games. O'brien can finish if he gets the chance. STABILITY is key, atleast these two can be relied on to play for longer than 30 minutes! Ridiculous.

@chubby: Nope. I only ask that O'brien is played. We can't tip toe around, they need to play some proper first team football. What would you do? The longer we wait and nurture them the more chance they will end up like Marquis out of contract and no longer around the first team. Think about the world of good it would do the younger players if they do play and do well. Its not like our team is full of confidence at the moment! I am prepared to go down this season, as long as we see some fight i'm happy. What will be will be, I will still be there for all home games. I understand the championship is a very very difficult league and without appropriate financial backing (£1 million + signings) we are going to struggle. Thats a reality. I don't blame any manager, its a hard club to manage and I'm just glad to be in the Championship as we speak.

@keamers: thats a far better comment rather than just following the rest of the crap.
None of us have the pleasure or otherwise of seeing obrian, Fred or in fact any other player in training etc. only the management team do. So your latest comment is bang on the money, managing milwall is very difficult. We as fans only see things through rose tinted glasses, so any player coming here is on a hiding to absolutely jack s***, if he leaves he gets dogs abuse. Why come in the first place to get that.
Obrian etc will get their chance if worthy.

@Aaron: is that scoring record of 1 in 4 referring to GTF or us as a team :) ?If we give him service this bloke is more likely to put it away than our current lot and his hold up play was always pretty good - so he should be an improvement on what we have. He's probably as disappointed to have us as his only option as we are to have him as ours - hopefully both he and us will be pleasantly surprised, good luck to him if he does come

    Haha
glad harford got his report in early this time. Must have been glowing.
IH Jan 2014 "i need to get rid of a few, we have far too many senior pro's at this club. I need more balance in the squad. I have to bring the age down. It's too disruptive"
Since ollie took over he's signed 10 players over the age of 30 5 of em on loan and got rid of about 10. 1 of em he's signed twice and 1 he signed he got rid of.
So much for balancing the squad and having too many senior pro's. Someone said man utd won't win anything with kids and they went on to win everything possible. The best squad I've seen us assemble was full of kids most of em home grown, they smashed league one to get to the championship and more than held their own and got to the fa cup final, baring injury they probably would have been promoted the same yr.
What's wrong now then ? We have some decent kids coming through and I'm sure we'd be no worse off if they every week.
Come on ollie give the kids a chance and don't go back on your word.

    33? Closer to 34
Played in about 6 games this season last being late November, so match fit and ready then!
Must surely have been prolific in a Leicester side winning promotion. 3 goals in 23 games!
So in short another 20 minute player, that will give us nothing different to Fuller.
Fantastic, get your Fulham tickets quick as it will be a sellout now.

@harrythelion: When clubs sign players they not only look at their footballing abilities but also at their personality and whether they will fit in to the team ethos and get along with the management.

At the very least if IH is signing players that know his style of management and he knows that he can trust them to do what he wants.

In our current situation we need players that can fit in straightaway.

Ideal scenario would be that we had a large amount of money to pay big transfer fees and wages for top quality players.......but we haven't....so we have to make do until our fortunes turn around

@harrythelion: I completely agree with you, but right now we can only sign emergency loan players.

We need experienced players who can keep us up and in the summer break bring in the youth from inside and outside the club.
Whilst it would seem logical to use our own young players right now it could end up destroying them, far easier to bring them into a winning side

I look at it like this. We're not going to sign a striker on a permanent basis or get a Premiership loanee in with only 15 games of the season left as we don't know if we're Championship or League one next season. Of all the names that have been whispered he's got to be a better option than Church etc. Financially, Millwall are not a Ferrari but more a Fiat 500 and we have to get what we can. At least some dead wood has been removed and last week everyone was saying how good so and so a player looks. That hasn't changed just because we've brought someone else in.
Is Holloway the right manager? We've all got opinions but one thing is for sure- he's going to be in charge until the end of the season. Difficult games ahead. I've seen Millwall come back from the dead more times than I care to remember. Keep the faith.

@eio: Sorry mate but I'd say with 15 games left, in the bottom three, a minus 20 goal difference that we're in trouble.

@eio: Realistically we need another 18-20 points in the next 15 games. Which means we need to pick up 5-6 wins and a few draws and we have seen a huge improvement in the last 5 games. I agree we are not dead and 3 points against Fulham will be massive. If we put a few results together with this new look team I wonder if all the IH doubters will admit they have been wrong? Too many fans prefer to complain and moan rather than get behind the team. Problems have been around for years yet IH is getting so much stick on here. Lets get behind the team and you never know GTF could be another claridge!

How about, and I know this is not very NAD. But how about we give the player a chance before we decide he is 'the worst player to ever wear our shirt' or ' a wage thief'. Just an idea.

With Gregory, O'Brien, Fuller, Hoff and GTF will Ian Utter Dismay play 2 upfront? That has to be the question. Especially at home where we just need to start winning.

Mr Holloway's famed contact book seems to be both thin and out of date?
Priority is now surely staying up, so why so concerned with age? Kevin Davies gave the Manchester United defence a hard time for seventy minutes on Monday and he is thirty seven, at least give Taylor-Fletcher a chance.
Simon Grayson put out a really well drilled Preston side, everyone seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing and did it. What a contrast to Mr Holloway.

Reading the comments above - its no wonder no one wants to come here. Look lads - We are Millwall - we thrive in adversity its been ac crap couple of seasons but after everything we've been through we're still in with a very good chance of staying up - and lets face it - how funny would it be if we did? lets get behind the team, show them that we're the best supporters out there - and who knows - we just might do it! COYL !!!!!

We already get league 1 gates mate! ....... As for this signing, bit of experience is the only positive I can think of. That and the fact if we want to go route 1 we can stick him up front with hoff and fuller and those 3 will certainly cause a few problems. Bit backwards in this day and age but don't be suprised if you see us play a lot more balls in the air now. I reckon IH will forget his tippy tappy stuff for the good of the team and play more direct from now on.

I know we'd all prefer a hungry young Prem striker on the fringes of the first team at say Spurs or Chelsea - another Harry Kane for example - but I'm not sure they'd be up for the pressure of a Championship relegation dogfight.

We need a Paul Moody type character right now, someone who's been there, seen it and done it and not fazed by a relegation six pointer at Rotherham or battling it out with promotion chasing 'Boro at The Riverside.

I don't know much about the player, but I do know he's scored goals at this level and Leicester were certainly keen to add him to their promotion-chasing squad last season, I can't imagine Pearson tolerating him for very long if he was a passenger.

So let's keep our fingers crossed that this is the missing piece of the jigsaw that our forward line needs (and please let's see 2 strikers starting on Saturday!) and that by 5pm on Saturday all the talk will be of GTF - and not WTF.

He's like a fatter, slower, less agile, kevin Phillips but with nowhere near as many goals to his name. But still a good person to have around for his experience and the fact he has been there and done it. Not much else good about it though! Let's hope he does well. At least the ball might stick up front when it gets there rather than it going straight back up the other end. He's certainly a physical player.

@Ben_MFC exactly, I can remember some of the comments when we signed Carlos around this time last year, it's always best to reserve judgement until you actually see the bloke play isn't it!
Football is a crazy, random game, he might just be right for us, he doesn't have to be prolific, just have the nous to stick away one of these chances we keep creating to turn a 0-0 into a 3 points, or save a draw at the death like we could have done at Leeds last week, that can be the difference between Championship and Lg 1 football next season.

Just f*** off ambler and holloway and take your short sighted backwards transfer policy with you. While I'm sure GTF could possibly do some sort of job in a team playing with confidence and scoring goals but that is most definitely not us right now what we lack is pace, pace and then some more pace we have no threat in behind defences it's not rocket science. This signing just smacks of clueless desperation.

Some "Wall" are an absolute embarrassment, and yet you all still think any half decent player is gonna want to come and join us if they have any other offer on the table?? Why would they??
GTF hasn't even signed and he's this and he's that.. Why would anyone want to come here and put up with the utter cr4p that 90% of the idiots on here come out with!!
While I would rather see O'Brien and Gregory be given the full backing of IH and played in a proper run of game til the end of the season, I don't see how or why anyone warrants such abuse before they've even kicked a ball, let alone signed for the club!!

What is this youth is everything mantra that gets repeated time without number? I know little about Gary Taylor-Fletcher but how do so many know he is no good? Look at the job Kevin Davies who is 37 did for Preston against Manchester United. Look at Edwards who was tremendous till injured. Kevin Phillips, Ryan Giggs played on for years in the Premiership and there are many more. Give the man a chance.

The abuse should surely be aimed at Mr Holloway who has demonstrated over this season just how poor a manager he is.

@Jzero: True, age is just a number and should be ignored, it is the quality of the player that needs to be judged. However it is Holloway's erratic form which is the main concern, so far he has taken the club backwards.

It might be worth remembering who the Chief Scout is here and what his reports are back to IH, the issue is not the signing of Taylor-Fletcher but why was he recommended that is the problem. What value are we getting with his so called scouting network that needs overhauling so get rid of him and bring in some one decent. I do think that O'Brien deserves a chance, get rid of Hoff as he is no good at playing football he might be tall but that is all, can't hold a ball and can't even head it at goal, don't play him up front on Saturday and don't play with one up front especially at home, we need to score goals and don't care if we win 4-3 as long as we win, 6 points are a must in the next two games.

I seem to remember one of Olly's attributes was his contacts within the game. So far, this appears to extend to ex Blackpool and palace players who might have been half decent five years ago and didn't point out what a tool he really is.
