Hooiveld to face Reading after finalising Millwall loan move

SOUTHAMPTON centre back Jos Hooiveld has joined Millwall on loan for the rest of the season and is set to make his debut against Reading tomorrow.

Hooiveld, 31, passed a medical at the Lions' training ground on Monday morning before putting pen-to-paper on a deal until the summer, when his contract with the Saints expires.

The Dutch defender has been on loan at Norwich since August but the Canaries agreed to cancel his stay at Carrow Road, allowing boss Ian Holloway to make his move.

Speaking to the club's official site, Hooiveld said: "I want as much success as possible – as many wins and as many clean sheets as we can – which is just what every footballer hopes for

"It is very important (to be playing regularly) and I'm no different from anyone else.

"I had a very nice and positive conversation with the manager. We had a good connection.

"Every game from now on is massive. It isn't just one game that decides it – there are 20."

Looks a good signing only worrying thing is how come he couldnt get in at norwich, and no other takers? Hoping he still has class and proves a steal of a signing, not worth getting hopes up when supporting millwall though, as they usually come crashing back down to earth! At least fresh faces at last and a new squad, needed this so badly. Cant wait to see PCH in action tommorow hopefully

A quality signing. Interesting to read "I had a very nice and positive conversation with the manager. We had a good connection" - Sometimes that can make the difference. More quality Championship players like this please Olly

Whatever we say about IH, I think we would all have to admit he is pretty good at selling the club to players. Welcome Jos. You look like our kid of defender

Just like to know what happened about the return of Tim Cahill ....?.......we all read about at the beginning of the season, oh of course we are not at the top of the table, that must be why.

Im hoping no other clubs got involved as it was a complex situation with norwich/southampton etc. Looks a tough player with a good attitude. Hopefully we can see a settled back four now and help Forde find some form again.

@keamers: he'll rumble Forde straight away. He has to defend because our keepers half awake.

I really think we can turn it around this season. 60 points left to play for.
    Gregory and Hoff up front,
Cowan Hall and Fabrinni / Martin supplying,
Williams ,our best player back tomorrow with Jimmy or Upson.
Sid,our youngest captain with Hooiveld and Cummings and Harding to keep the goals out and get Fordey going again.
More new faces also to join and others who have had their chance leaving.
Things are looking up in my book.
P.S. Well done Holloway in persuading him to join us.

@wall2wall: I would rather Marvin Gaye on the wing than martin he can deliver consistanly rather then Martin beating his marker 2-5 times and not decent cross with 2 wide players who plays in the center of MIDFIELD that is the question JIMMY a ball winner UPSON has never been given a fair chance he has no problem dribbling past players and centainly has no problem winning a ball from what we have seen of Fabrinini can he last 90 mins or do we give him 60-65 mins and get him up to full fitness and finally where do we get the best of Shaun Williams what a nice dilemma for OLLIE to solve

        @OTIS:
Your right about Gueye, I stupidly forgot him as I mentioned below and he is looking a lot sharper and looks a threat.
As you say midfield is a nice dilemma for Holloway. I personally would start with Jimmy.
I'm feeling a lot better about things than I did a month ago and can't wait for tonight.

Judging by that video above, he should be playing up front! With Jos and the Hoff playing we might score a few from set pieces now

I still think Gregory and Hoff up front is embarrassing. Much prefer to see Gueye & Gregory / O'brien.

Him,Gregory and the Hoff.they've all got something different. Nice balance and also O'brien like you say.

Whatever happens for the rest of this season IH has pulled out all the stops this month to sign new faces and get rid of unwanted players. The icing on the cake is if he signs another striker before the window closes.

Hopefully we get to play all our new signings tonight, with lee and hoff up front. That said, I don't expect solid results for 3 or 4 games while they settle it, then maybe a lose will become a draw, and a draw becomes a win

A clean sheet would do us the world of good tonight. Id be a verry happy man. Would do the back four the world of good, and Fordey. Tighten up at the back and im sure we have enough creativity to nick a few here and there.
