Preview: Millwall vs. Ipswich Town

NEW signings Shaun Cummings and Diego Fabbrini could make their Millwall debuts against Ipswich Town tomorrow.

Manager Ian Holloway will make drastic changes to his starting XI after Wednesday's humiliating defeat to Bradford City, so Cummings and Fabbrini could be thrown straight in.

Left back Dan Harding will make his first appearance at The Den since joining on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Paris Cowan-Hall (calf) is a major doubt but Stefan Maierhofer comes back into contention having been ineligible to play in the FA Cup.

Mark Beevers and Shaun Williams are both suspended, while Nicky Bailey (calf) and Carlos Edwards (knee) are also unavailable.

Ipswich striker David McGoldrick is a doubt and exciting youngster Teddy Bishop could also miss out through illness.

The Tractor Boys have added Colchester United's Freddie Sears to their squad and also want to sign Billy Sharp from Leeds in time for Saturday's clash.

I think that being the underdog here could really benefit us added to our impressive recent record against Ipswich i'm hopeful we can nick it. I would play
    King
    Cummings Webster Nelson Harding
    Fabbrini Abdou Powell Gueye
    Hoff Gregory
A hard working midfield with creativity and good delivery outwide with hopefully a solid back line COYL.

@junkmale: Is a possibility feel that Gueye has more pace and is younger given a run of games could come good, however, Martin is a better wide man with a higher work rate. Arguments for both.

Season restarts tomorrow. Win or lose we expect a battling performance that we can be proud of, I'm expecting miracles, just expect had work and some sort of game plan that may allow to at least score...
Billy Sharp is the sort of forward we should be looking, proven goalscorer at this level?!!

I hate to be so pessimistic but I cannot see anything other than a defeat tomorrow. This isn't a new start for us it's same old same old. No doubt even the new players at the mad hatters disposal will be on the bench or played out of position. What's to stop Dunne and Shittu starting at centre back again and Forde who has been pony recently being in goal. Fuller starting upfront alone then when we're 4-0 down The Hoff and gregs get sent on with Maggie. I hate feeling like this but what other outcome to people honestly and seriously expect while that lunatic is still in charge?

@junkmale: I'd forget anything he says mate. It's all toilet and he's said it all before. Think Boro at home, Bolton at home, Norwich away, Blackpool away etc etc. It will be the same old story tomorrow evening and we'll hear another avalanche of toilet come out of his mouth finding excuses as to why we lost. That hurts so much to say as I watch my club sink further and further into disarray at the hands of these lunatics in charge.

A good win tomorrow, with the number of new players we have, will really turn around the mood in the club and I obviously include the fans as 'the club'. If you are a supporter and if you possibly can get down there lets make some positive noise, the team really do need us and at least show the new guys what it is like to play in front of a real 'Wall' crowd.

Am I the only one who is getting sick of Ollie not giving our own youth players a chance which him and the whole coaching staff rave about.
I watched Goodman at Wimbledon play Liverpool and thought he looked a natural dealing with the multi million pound players against him. Young Sid Nelson. Playing well at the moment yet dropped for s**t experienced players. Fred O. out on loan. WHY! Bring back goodman and fred ASAP and get rid of the crap at the club.
Another loss this weekend and Ollie has to be sacked!

    Mick Macarthy quote:-
"If they (Millwall) can get in front against the team in third the place will be rocking. Lot of time for Mick so lets not disappoint him.
He went on to say "But I also know that if we can stop that and we get the first goal they can turn on their players very quickly." If that does happen just make sure the noise goes up.
Now up to Ollie and the team to give us something to make the place rock.

We could also have had Charlie Austin from Swindon, we offered £800K (so as not to break the record we paid for hammer Goddard nearly 30 years ago), Swindon wanted £1M, we wouldn't pay it and Burnley did. Again, it's us not taking our chance or ever taking A chance

IH will not play 4-4-2 so the most we can hope for is that he will at least play 2 up front for the rest of the season, Gregory plus the Hoff but I am still hoping another striker is signed before the close of the transfer window. Doyle is back at Wolves and said he would like to go out on loan again as he is not part of Jackett's plans. Perhaps Holloway can contact his mate Kenny or, Forde being a fellow Eire Inter national have a word in his ear.

Could it be that up till now IH has been trying to keep all his player's happy by over rotating the squad and being to loyal to certain player's, in doing so has he let thing's get out of hand.Has the Bradford fiasco made him see sense and with the new player's he could now sort thing's out.
No matter what happen's agin Ipswich we must get behind our team as we go into the second half of the season,as there will no more second chance's.

Really need to dig our heels in. Composure is key. We need to see intent and commitment. Need a bully in midfield. Theres only so much complaining that can be done, we need to find a resolution and stable 11 starting with securing a regular back 4. Forde needs to be kept on his toes , dropping him is debatable. Come on you lions a few big tackles early doors will get our voices going. I'm hopeful on the new signings let's hope our season can be revived tomorrow. NOLU WDC !!

@keamers: I'm with you about Forde I don't think he should be left out. What he does need is some consistency in front of him and if we have two steady full backs it's a start. I thought Harding looked quite decent at Blackpool. Have been to the last two games but not there today - hoping for a win today; overall mood has changed and maybe Bradford has been the wake up call. Have a predictor at work and it's on the list this week - must be crazy but I've gone for 1.0.

Maybe what really happened after the Bradford game was the JB said to Holloway , this is it mate no more, either you sort this out or you are out. That would explain Holloways sudden rant about seriously getting rid of the dross and playing the new signings. I do believe JB will back Holloway but for how long?

Just watched Fantasy Football and had a spot with Gareth Ainsworth, who talked about managers he played under. Holloway he described as the most passionate about the game and the one who cared most, with his record of promotions and, it seems to me, loyalty he would be the ideal Millwall manager. We all called out for a clear out and as JB was saying with the number of players out of contract at the end of the season they were hoping it would be then but due to the position we are in they needed to bring the plan forward. There was, during the war, a phenomenon known as the Blitz spirit where it was thought that with constant bombing of the docks would make the people of London give up and we know it just made them stronger, if our parents and grandparents can do it under such severe circumstances we can do it for football matches.

I love the loyalty of the fans, but the main point is being missed. Ollie believes in a squad rotational system, where every week he will change around the selection. He believes there are too many games, and thinks he will keep the whole squads morale high, if they know in 2-3 weeks they will be playing. He wants to have a backup for every player, so he can change it every week.

Ollie believes in playing 1 main striker, 2 midfielders just in front of defence, and that any player should be able to play on the wing (Maggie/Marquis?) THIS IS THE MAIN PROBLEM MOST OF YOU ARE MISSING. Of course he favours Fuller, Dunne, McDonald, because he likes them as people who try hard for him, and will do everything he says. He dropped Nelson because of this rotational squad system, and he will drop our best players continually.

I keep reading supporters thinking the players are getting injured in training or players are unfit, but this is a lie to play-out this squad rotation. Can't you all see it now?? Ollie wants to make every player work in training, and fight to get into team, thats why he lies about fitness/injuries. How can so many players pickup injuries which only last 1/2 weeks? Work it out, if you are an athlete you will know exactly what I am talking about. He has done it over 20 times this season, I can't believe so many supporters have not realised it.

This manager made our technically worst player Captain, he continually plays inept players because of this squad rotational system, and all you naive fans keep backing him. I love the loyalty of this club, but sometimes someone needs to make your eyes fresh again. Back Millwall on Betfair if you think they will start winning again, talk is very cheap, Ollie has you all on strings like puppets.

I haven't posted on here for a while but I have been reading the posts.
Most people would agree that the majority of our squad are League 1 standard.
I honestly thought that after the great escape at the end of last season that we could push on, but it didn't happen.
I'm sure that the Manager and the Chairman thought that as well.
I was at the Middlesbrough game and it was horrendous and it was clear that things had to change.
I am not buying the crap about players being out of contract, they should be fighting for their contracts by producing outstanding performances.
I hope that the new players will make a difference and more come in who can pull on the shirt and play with passion for this club we all love.
I went to Ipswich away and they are no mugs so we will be in for a hard game this afternoon.
We need to play with pride and passion, as fans we need to give the new players the opportunity to settle in. (Hopefully more than 2 minutes)
I'll be down the Den in the Cold Blow cheering on the Lions hopefully we can start our fight back. MILLLLL

I feel positive about today, I do feel that we'll see a passionate performance and hopefully a win, I'm not naive (who would be after 44 years down the den lol) and know this is a very difficult situation we're in but we're 'wall and when has life ever been easy for us?
If your going today let's show them what a proper 'wall crowd can do to help OUR team and OUR club.
    COYL Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

@ettieneverveer: that's hard to argue but I think he was learning a lot last season and even earlier this season, about what type of player succeeds with us
