SHAUN Cummings could make his Millwall debut against Ipswich tomorrow after signing from Reading this week.

But who is Cummings, and what can he bring to Ian Holloway's relegation-threatened side?

NewsAtDen has taken a closer look at the 25-year-old defender…

Born in Hammersmith on February 25 1989, Cummings started his career with Chelsea at the age of 16.

The defender failed to make any senior appearances for the west London club but was twice sent out on loan.

Cummings' first loan spell was during the 2008-09 season with MK Dons, where he was given his first taste of league football.

He made his professional debut from the substitutes' bench during a 1-0 win over Northampton Town.

Cummings went on to make 35 appearances for the Dons during his season-long loan spell (31 starts), helping the club finish third and qualify for the play-offs.

Unfortunately for Cummings, he only managed to play three minutes over the two play-offs semi-final legs as the Dons were beaten by Scunthorpe.

The following season, the right back was set for a new challenge in a higher league with Championship side West Brom.

After a brief four-game loan spell at the Hawthorns, then-Reading boss Brendan Rodgers signed the wing back on a permanent three-year-deal.

Cummings made only seven appearances under Rodgers before he was sacked in December, with Brian McDermott taking over at Reading.

Initially, Cummings played second-fiddle to Andy Griffin under McDermott.

But he was a regular in the side the following campaign and made 36 appearances as Reading won the Championship title in 2012.

Following promotion, however, McDermott signed Chris Gunter from Nottingham Forest for £2.3m and Cummings was no longer a guaranteed starter.

He made 11 Premier League appearances, featuring in defeats to Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Reading finished 19th and were relegated straight back to the Championship, where Cummings would only make 12 appearances behind first-choice Gunter in 2013-14.

Despite being English-born, Cummings was called up to the Jamaica squad in May 2013 for three World Cup qualifying matches.

He made his international debut four months later on September 6 in a 0-0 draw away to Panama.

Cummings made seven appearances for Reading this season, his last being in a 2-2 draw with Brighton on Boxing Day.

On his 70th league appearance for the Royals, the defender scored his first professional goal – a 25-yard daisy-cutter at Wigan on the opening day of the season.

In total, he made 85 appearances in all competitions for Reading, scoring one goal.
