Reading defender pens two-and-a-half-year deal at Millwall

SHAUN Cummings has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Millwall after passing a medical this morning.

The right back joins from Rreading for an undisclosed fee and becomes the Lions' fourth new addition of the January transfer window.

As first revealed by NewsAtDen, a deal for the 25-year-old has been in the pipeline since last week.

"Nigel Gibbs has worked with Shaun before so he knows exactly what we are getting," manager Ian Holloway told the club's official site.

"He can play at wing-back or at right-back and he can run all day long. He can attack and he played in a team that got promoted out of this division.

"We're delighted to have Shaun on board as I think he can be a real asset for us over the short and long-term.

"He gives us a new option and as a player he can contribute in defence and in attack."

Cummings made 71 league appearances for the Royals after moving to the Berkshire club from Chelsea's academy in 2009.

"This is a very good club and that is why I came here," the defender said. "I'm very pleased to be here.

"The position in the league isn't where we should be so hopefully as a club we can step on.

"It is going to be an important time between now and the end of the season in getting the club out of the zone it is in and progressing forward.

"From a personal point of view I want to hit the ground running straight away and play how I know I can play.

"I'm a hard worker and I never like to lose.

"I like to get forward and get crosses in but as a defender I also want to keep clean sheets and do well in my one-on-one duels."

I dont want to jinx things finally we are signing players who could actually progress us. We NEED a CB priority now, another striker would be good to. A line up of:

    Forde,
    Cummings, Webster, Nelson, Harding.
    Cowan Hall, Williams, Upson/Powell, Martin
    Gregory & Gueye

Pace on the right is brilliant.. get the byline get the ball in the box for two quick and powerful playeers who i believe link really well and should be given a chance up top together. Mairhofer would be useful for last 20 mins with wide players getting balls into the box. Cummings and cowan hall could be vital for us on the right. Wilkinson is a good squad player to. Seriously believe a good old fashioned 4-4-2 would sort us out. Briggs could be a decent left winger instead of left back also. Get him to the byline and get balls in. We have lacked pace and power for so long about time we used it properly. Dont expect to win game after game! But would be nice for some flair and decent entertainment for once

@SLloyd23: The biggest priority is getting a new manager. We could sign half the Real Madrid team, but it'll make little difference until Holloway goes. There's no good avoiding the inevitable until its too late.

@Micky Lions: Now IH is getting his players in and getting rid of some of the dead wood I think we will see a huge improvement. If we do begin to get results and pull away would you put your hands up and admit you were wrong or would you find something else to moan about? We have been shambles recently but replacing the manager now is not the answer. It could take a week or 2 to get a new manager and by that time the transfer window would be almost finished leaving the new manager with pretty much the same sh*t as always and that would ultimately lead us to relegation.

Lets get behind the team and hope for a month or 2 of decent football. And I really hope we dont "celebrate" like we did last season for staying up. I only want to see us celebrate at the end of the season if we manage to get into the top half!

@whiteliont: . I'd have been more than happy if Holloway had come good as a Millwall manager, but I honestly think his time is up. Apart from the run that kept us last season (and into the first two games in August) I've seen nothing to fill me with any confidence in the blokes ability.

All I care about is the club, so I'll still get behind the team, but there's no way I'll give my support on here for such a dead-duck of a manager.

@SLloyd23: someone who actually knows what they are talking about! Ollie though will play McDonald, Woolford and Hof, its such a joke. Can't all the fans see it, we will be playing long balls to Hof all day long. He wont drop Dunne for more than 3 games, Powell must play, he should take all our freekicks/corners too, technique/vision/time on ball is first class. Williams and Powell & Maggie/Gregory would carve up teams like Rotherham/ Blackpool to shreds. Ollie must go, his formations/selections are ruining this club.

    Welcome aboard Shaun.
Quick piece of advise 'Don't tell the fans to f*** off' if things aren't going your way.
Apart from that, work hard, give 100% every game and score a few goals and you'll be a 'wall legend in no time!

@bordersarebest0170: Borders we don't have an enforcer on the payroll ( please don't mention sick note Bailey he is almost as big a wage thief as Hoyte what a win double) and Jimmy is the only ball winner but imo is not championship standard but 10/10 for commitment but I would be more than happy to have him if/ when we drop.

looks a decent signing, only thing that bothers me slightly is 70 games in 5 years is less than 15 games a season, hope he's not injury prone, maybe not first choice?

Very pleased. Position we definitely needed to strengthen as wilkinson loan is nearly up.
Sign at least 1 CB and 2 attacking players with pace and we may get away from this battle.
Forde 100% needs competition to keep him on his toes as he has been very inconsistent of late yet is undroppable, so potentially loan a keeper?

Anyone know if the pringle deal is dead or we looking to revive?

No what you mean but how long do you put up with this s.hit being served up every week. None of the signings have proved to be great yet and under this plank I doubt if they will. How long will it take before you realise that IH is a complete fruit cake.

@LETEMCOME: wot dya mean none of his signings have proved to be great yet...? The only players that aint getting torn a new one on here week in week out are HIS signings....Williams, Gregory, Gueye, Wilkinson...even Upson, Briggs an Webster have been roundly accepted as players lacking confidence yet with potential....as much as i think tactically hes struggled this season an is clearly nutty as squirrel sh** youve gotta say that nearly all the players we s*** off on here week in week out are the old tosh that jackett an lomas left behind an you can bet your sweet life he'll be getting shot of em in the summer....i just think enough is enough now....it hasnt worked out as we all thought it would but lets just try n keep the faith an hopefully with a good crowd supporting em on each week the boys might just turn it around an then from next season we can see Ollies OWN team still in the championship making a fesh start....what have we got to lose....for f**** sake, dont forget most of this millwall team are the same players that shoulda got us relegated years ago under jackett...if we can survive against all odds for just 1 more season most of the drivel that have overstayed their welcome will be jogged on for a new batch of Ollies making....come on boys....quit the bitc**** an whining and give em a bit of confidence....they need it BIG time....

Welcome to the club of "sensible people" on here mate, there aren't many of us around. The rows I've had on here about giving holloway a chance to get rid of all the s***, and sign his own players have been unreal, some people are clueless. I've wrote essays explaining it in simple English and some people still just say "hollowhead is a c***" etc, they need to realise that they're part of the problem why certain players don't want to sign for Millwall, and why our players melt at the den. PATIENCE is needed, keep calm people.

A better question would be, other than the new blokes who haven't played yet, how many of the team are holloways signings? Not many. And the only players who have recieved any credit this season , have been the ones HOLLOWAY signed. Some people are too stubborn to admit when they're wrong and will want holloway to fail just so they can look clever on an Internet forum.

Another very good signing and shows Holloway does have some pull because we're not the most attractive proposition at the moment.
Whats happened to the Afobe deal - anyone know.. he can score goals and is just what we need - bit of pace.. too much of our play is to feet and if we get some pace we can play into the spaces and work the channels a bit more.
