Millwall's move for Rotherham United winger breaks down

TALKS between Millwall and Rotherham winger Ben Pringle have broken down.

Pringle was given permission to discuss a £175,000-switch to The Den on Tuesday but the move now looks to be dead in the water.

The 25-year-old is coming to the end of his contract with the Millers and could leave the Yorkshire club this month, or wait until June when he becomes a free agent.

High-flying Brentford had an offer for Pringle rejected last summer but remain big admirers of the attacker. Wolves and Brighton are also interested.

The Lions had earmarked the set-piece specialist as an ideal addition to their squad but they may now be forced to turn their attention to other targets.

NewsAtDen understands Millwall offered Pringle a huge wage rise to join them.

Well Ollie let's find someone else! Still think we should sign another striker incase 'The Hoff' doesn't work out. Any news on Doyle?Looking forward to seeing Paris play tomorrow at Blackpool. Safe trip to all the other fans going to Bloomfield Road tomorrow!

So we are prepared to pay more for a soon to be out of contract 25 year old than we got for a relatively highly regarded Malone. We are utter divs in the transfer/loan market!!!

@JonnyBanks: An attacking midfielder is always going to be worth more than a left back who also was soon to be out of contract...

@spj91: True but we are still divs at it. Maybe Andy Rambler should visit some more teams and do a few more tours to see how it's done.

If all the hype about Malone had been true,ie other english and german club's being interested,i think we would have got more for Malone, but in truth jonny, Malone could not defend ,could not tackle his best attribute was going forward, even then his final ball was'nt much to write home about.
IMO Millwall are well rid of him.
On the flip side as you say ,he is very regarded by some people. Cardiff being one of them.

@Kiwimillwall: Tim Cahill will not come back, apparently he has offers to join Premier League sides on loan during the MLS close season, he loves this club yes but he's a not a fool.

We are the poorest, smallest, lowest placed club of the people that are sniffing around Pringle plus he lives up north where he has probably got family so why would he want to come here. How many of our fans would suddenly like to uproot themselves and go up north to live and work when there could be better options on the table?

What I find encouraging from this article is that it shows IH is trying to add some depth to the squad. Same thing with the LB from from forest coming in - you can't realistically compete at this level with one player in each position - ideally you want at least 2 players for each position...
How we've gone on for so long with 1 winger in the squad is unbelievable really - ideally we want 4 wingers, but 3 would be a big improvement!! COYL!!

@Luke ColdBlow10: I agree, I think it is quite refreshing that IH is looking to strengthen the squad with quality as opposed to numbers. I like this appraoch, but wish that some of the targets were just a bit younger, so that we may have a higher sell on value in the future.

Pity Holloway did not look at "quality" players a year ago, I am not taken in by all his flannel, the best transfer would be another manager.

What really annoys me, is the fact that the fans expect these players to just sign because there's a deal on the table? Lets face it, right now we are not in a healthy position as a club, we're struggling in the league, we have lots of players out of contract in under 6 months and we clearly are struggling financially, why would players choose to join us over teams who are not facing relegation?

I also see the same names posted every day on here and on twitter - Eoin Doyle, Lloyd Dyer, Tom Pope, Tom Bradshaw, Reuben Reid to name just a few ... The club do want to bring in exciting players who the fans want to see but just because they could be available doesn't mean they want to come here and it isn't always Millwall's fault!

It won't change, you'll still see the same 'why don't we sign ???' comments and tweets. If players don't want to come here, accept it and move on to players that DO want to play for us. I don't know about any of you but I'd rather have 11 players in the team each week who want to play for Millwall and play for the fans rather than a bunch of money grabbers, which is why we're in the position we are in! (not all of our squad are money grabbers but we've had a fair few in recent years)

    Rant over!

I'll probably get the 'dislikers' out in force on this comment but its true and those going to Blackpool tomorrow, I didn't fancy the trip on my own but to those going, good luck!

@spj91: Having lived all over the country and spoken with football fans from outside London, I can honestly say that Millwall FC is not that popular outside of SE London, so some players just may not fancy it. We need to look for players that come from similar areas where they know the type of people and community they are dealing with and the values that they hold dear.
