Millwall striker Marquis loaned to League One Gillingham

JOHN Marquis has joined League One side Gillingham on a month's loan.

The 22-year-old featured for the Lions as recently as Boxing Day but with Ian Holloway looking to bolster his attacking options, Marquis has been allowed to leave in order to play first-team football.

Marquis is no stranger to being loaned out, having had spells at five different clubs in the past.

He should find first-team opportunities more forthcoming with the Gills after Danny Kedwell left the Kent side to sign for Ebbsfleet.

He's still very young, could still play a role at the club.

@glyngo: he's 22 which is not that young for a footballer, he's played 42 games for us and scored 5 goals, he has no role to play at MFC!

FFS!!! just sell him. if he was gonna be good enough we would f****** know by now surely? no disrespect to the lad he works his b******* off and has always put a shift in! but it's not fair to keep pushing him from pilla to post, he needs to settle somewhere and i think we all know that's just not here.

I like his passion and effort he puts in but he clearly lacks skill and is too weak to lead the attack. Sadly his limitations are too great to be overcome. He should be allowed to move on to a lower level club.

@millwall13: it would seem no lower league club wants to sign him. He's been loaned out enough times and he's still with us so I think that says it all about his credentials as a striker.

Clearly not championship quality, he's poor in comparison to our other strikers! League 1 or 2? Debatable.

Most impressive moment: earning a contract extension last season.

Good luck to Marquis and Easter, decent blokes but should never have been given contracts at a championship club.We must have squandered a million pounds on these two and they haven't offered us anything at this level. The money could have been spent on one player who could have made more appearances than both of them put together.

Why did we give him a contract last year ? Just a PR exercise from the clown in charge at the moment.
