Picture: Millwall loanee nabs Balotelli's shirt after cup tie

JAKE Goodman wasn't expecting to play against Liverpool when he moved from Millwall to AFC Wimbledon on loan in November.

But a plum cup draw for the League Two Dons saw Goodman, 21, line up against the Premier League giants in an enthralling FA Cup third round tie on Monday evening.

The young Lions centre back, who picked up a booking for clattering into Steven Gerrard, was singled out by pundit Danny Mills as one of Wimbledon's most impressive players.

So while Gerrard's brace saw the Kingsmeadow side suffer a narrow 2-1 defeat, Goodman can be proud of his performance.

And he managed to lay his hands on the much-coveted shirt of Italy international Mario Balotelli at the full time whistle. Not a bad memento!

Have to say watching the game last night Ollie has to get him back at the den and into the 1st team. He played brilliantly and showed a lot of fight which is what our fans want to see.
I see on twitter last night that I am not the only one who thinks this with Beevers, Dunney and Shittu all being slagged off. I agree with all these people that say maybe Goodman and Nelson should be given a go together. Hopefully Millwall will do the right thing and actually play talent, rather than letting another competitive side in our league have them for nothing.

@kentlion: recall him in time for the Chelsea game and he can pick up another shirt to add to the collection ;)

        @MFC Lion: b******* he's cup tied obviously.

Oh well, a solid performance all the same and certainly expect to see if starting for us in the near future.

A great performance by Jake Goodman and will be good to see him and Nelson alongside each other in years to come. Well done Jake !.

I hope to see Goodman/Nelson together next season, this season we need a more experienced head in one if the two CB births and therefore only space for one. They will benefit from the experience.

A Nelson/Goodman partnership might be the future but this year we need experience to get us safe. Big Danny plus another experienced defender with some pace on loan till the end of the season.

Can anyone explain to me why we allowed Jake to become cup tied when we have a replay next week and a centre back crisis?
Goodman is three years in front of Sid. he should be in the first team and Sid out on loan getting game time in the lower leagues.

@Glasshalffull: bad management, this club has been run poorly for years.
Goodman should be playing with Sid as all the other centre halves have shown they are incapable.

When I first saw "Balotelli" & "Loan" in the headline, I thought that Holloway had pulled off a massive loan signing in Balotelli :)

did he play that well - was he at fault for first goal? backed right off as the cross came in and couldn't get up to challenge Gerrard in time - had that habit of being too deep throughout the game - very easy to see him as the solution when in reality he most prob isn't ready for the championship

@timchimes: clearly it was the 35 year bald blokes at fault the floated cross should be stopped (near post ) not only has he got that shirt from balotelli, Rickie lambert is still in his back pocket !! Englands answer for a striker in the World Cup !! Was never a booking on Gerrard who clearly fell into goodman, clearly you are dunne in disguise...

There's a very good reason why hes playing on league 2..to learn his trade first.before we throw him in to championship level..but i'am sure he'll make the grade...

@Jim28: maybe start him on loan in League 1 next season and gradually introduce him to the Championship next season, if we stay up? If not problem solved!

He did ok. Positionally a little suspect, especially when facing his own goal when on occasion he was caught a little bit too far from the action. But lets face facts, he's probably had harder 90 minutes in League Two. Looks a good prospect though.

If I were his coach I would take that shirt off his hands and throw it in the bin. He is a Millwall player on loan not a Balotelli fan.

If he really wanted to pose with a shirt so bad he should take Robinson's who fought for our club for 14 years and should be the example to follow.

Reading some of the comments here makes you think how much do we actually appreciate the youth system at this club. Maybe some fans at here should realise that he had the opportunity

To play against some of the best players in the country. So what if he got Balotelli's shirt. I know if anyone on here was actually good enough and fit enough and tactically intelligent enough to play against such a striker, I'm sure they'd ask for his shirt. People saying, he should take Robbo's shirt.. Get real. He was one of the youngsters work colleagues, do you take your work collegues clothes in honour?

@dotdotdot: No disrespect to Goodman but he is a professional football player not a fan like us to be photographed with superstars' shirts. Can you imagine Mourinho's or Ferguson's reaction if one of their young players was posing with shirts of the opposition? I think that we need to kick out the small club mentality and forge stronger, more competitive characters for the club among the young players. I honestly hope that Goodman will become one of the latter and my comment was not meant as a criticism to him.
