Millwall talking to Charlton's Church and Blackburn's Varney

©

MILLWALL are discussing January moves with Luke Varney of Blackburn Rovers and Charlton's Simon Church.

Lions boss Ian Holloway also remains in contact with Stefan Maierhofer about a possible Den return as he looks to add more striking options to his squad.

Holloway is interested in taking Varney or Church on loan, although it is understood both players would prefer permanent moves.

The duo are out-of-contract in the summer and want to sign on for next season as well.

Varney played under Holloway at Blackpool while Church is well thought of by first team coach Nigel Gibbs, who worked with the Wales international at Reading.

Despite drastically lowering his wage expectations since last summer, Maierhofer would need to further decrease his demands to make a move more feasible.

The Austrian has approached Millwall about coming back to south London and Holloway will consider taking him on at the right price.

Hoff can f*** off. Church is crap. Varney is the better optionIMO
What concerns me is that we've signed two players Iin two days that look ok. On the other hand, when it comes to signing out and out forwards, we haven't got a clue.

How many years has it been since the January transfer window actually meant anything at the wall, or any transfer window for that matter.

Have to say, it is actually looking quite good at the moment, with the players we're looking at, as well as the ones we've already picked up.

Not Holloways biggest fan at the moment, but looking at all the current news, it would appear that players do want to come play for him, and the board has confidence in him (despite our current league position).

There's a good chance (if the ins and outs continue) that we'll be able to build a squad to get us out of our current problems ... more importantly, there's a chance that, with the board and fans support, Holloway could get us in a much better place next season.

Actually feeling quite optimistic at the moment (despite our recent results)

If we're honest we are only going to get players that nobody else wants. Although Church and Varney don't set the world alight, this is probably as good as it will get.

Varny 32 hmmmmmmn not the answer imo but we do need tried and tested but how many more senior pro's do we and can we fit into our squad. On the plus side he knows ollie and is accustomed to ollie's formations 4-3-3 4-2-3-1. Could be good attacking option. At a push do the loan but definately do not sign permanently.
Church 26 ???? Never been prolific and had loads of unsuccessful loans. A good age and now needs to find a club that fits. Maybe a 3 month loan with option to extend until end of season with view to permanent contract. Just think we need these players to prove they deserve what they're asking for, give them an incentive to earn it.
    The hoff ??????????????????? No comment.
I'd go with church out of the 3 of em but it's not my choice.
There has to be younger and hungrier out there. Hope this is a smoke screan

Not exactly inspiring any of the choices - out of the three, Church on an initial loan basis. I am a realist and accept that we are not going to splash too much cash but strikes me as sticking to the well trodden road of recent years which has not exactly brought results.

Disgraceful! We are in dire straights for real quality, Brentford effortlessly spend another million on ex-Rangers player Lewis Macleod while we yet AGAIN look at the unwanted tosh left kicking about in other teams reserves! I get taking the Hoff back (on the very cheap) because his height is unique and can offer us additional dimension in attack BUT Varney and Church?! C'mon Millwall we never learn! Heaven forbid us ever breaking that £800,00 transfer record set for Paul Goddard. Those two are no better than Fuller or Gregory. I would rather see us play O'Brien or even Marquis! What happen to talk of youth and pace? Or even just PACE?!

I cannot understand the people who are knocking the hoff ,when he played a huge part in keeping us up last year
He only scored twice ,but that was 3pts we were not expecting to get .
He made the space for wooly to head his match winner against bournmouth another 3 pts
He also made space for other player's in other game's ,so sorry i just cant understand you knocker's of hoff .
I could name other time's he aided other player's ,but i am sure you knocker's would sooner highlight his miss when in fact he was offside , one thing i think would happen if he came back ,is he would benifit Gregory a great deal.

I know I'll probably get slated for this but I cannot understand why we are not looking any further than Steve Morison. Yes I know he's second stint with us wasn't all that but equally I don't think it was all his fault either. He played six months under Lomas and to be fair the whole team were dire, then when IH came in he played either out of position and with little or no service. I personally think he's exactly who we need to partner Gregory and or if required Fuller. I would setlle for the HOF if that was the only choice but as others have said NO NO to Church or Varney.
