Millwall complete loan swoop for Forest left back Harding

DAN Harding has joined Millwall on loan until the end of the season.

Harding, 31, passed a medical this morning before training with his new teammates for the first time.

Fellow new signing Paris Cowan-Hall also took part in his first session with the club on Monday following his switch from Wycombe Wanderers last week.

The Nottingham Forest left back is a direct replacement for Cardiff-bound Scott Malone, who is scheduled to travel to Wales tomorrow to complete a £100,000-transfer.

He will remain at The Den until the end of the season, when his contract at the City Ground expires, and he is available for Saturday's six-pointer against Blackpool.

Speaking to the club's official site, Harding explained how former Southampton teammate Richard Chaplow played a role in his move to SE16: "Chappy had a lot of good things to say about the club.

"And of course I already knew what a top manager Ian Holloway is, supported by very good coaching staff.

"For myself, this is a great opportunity to get some regular first team football again, and I'm looking forward to playing my part in the second half of the season.

"Every game is a big one in this League, with pressure for success increasing every year it seems. But I do believe that if we can string two or three wins together we can start moving up the table quickly and things will look a lot more positive."

I wonder if we committed to buying him when we signed this loan deal, like we did with Easter? Anyway, welcome to the club Dan, we need experienced quality defenders at the moment and if you deliver on that front we will be right behind you.

@colin66: So we just need to make sure we tie him up early if he looks good.

            @eddielarge:

why do people persist with this chris wood stuff - he did not want to sign for us so we could not have had him for half a million - you cannot make hypothetical signings

Welcome to Wall Dan hope you can help us keep some clean sheets which we have found hard to do over the last couple of seasons, I think the jury may be out on your assessment of Ollie, but I hope you fit in and are fi t enough to play straight away and also have injuries which could also keep you out of the side.

Welcome mate hope you've got a better attitude than the t*** pot who's gone to wales, if you can just score 20 goals between now and the end of the season you'll be well liked.

Signing ageing reject Championship players and expecting to be a success in a relegation battle? Sounds very familar. How long will it be before his opinion of Holloway changes?

@lennie the lion: Granted it is the same as Carlos Edwards but these seem like short term fixes with no long term plan. Too many players who haven't done it at this level with other clubs - Martin, Bailey, Hoyte, McDonald, Chaplow, Woolford, Easter etc

Don't know how you can say that about McDonald , he has been one of our best players this season and fully committed to the team

If he turns out to be half as good as Carlos Edwards it will be a good signing.

Some of the posters on here really mystify me sometimes, we bring a player in with a decent pedigree with Ipswich,Southampton , and nots forest. And we get post going on about the chris wood saga,a player who never wanted to sign for us,had much better offers and took one. Another poster naming a list of so called failures, including Martin, McDonald, woolford ,CHAPLOW ,Bailey. These are good players,CHAPLOW was great when here on loan,we all wanted him,but Injurys have done for him , same with bailey. Woolford not so clever this season, but very decent last season, top goalscorer, martin&mcdonald doing pretty well this season I think. Getting players in is not an exact science, some work out some don't . Dan Harding May work out he may not but when you have little or no money he's worth a punt. Sometimes I wonder if some supporters forget the tiny budget the club runs with.

They just like to s*** players off before they've even kicked a ball for us.

Then if they do have a bad game they come on here and boast at how they were right and knew they were gona be s***.

Not sure on this one, I've been slated all day by a Forrest fan for how crap Harding is, his words were "will start going to the den to cheer his name for a change, when he gives goals away". He rated him worse than Fox.
Will hopefully prove him wrong I've the next few months!

@mfc_fan: If Harding is no good we will see Briggs in there instead, which IMHO is not too bad. Briggs did well on Saturday against a team of giants. Either way, we have now got two reasonably decent left backs.

I work with a Forest fan who says the bloke does a good job although a number of their fans did not rate him highly. Overall he would appear to be a more reliable defensive option than Malone which is where we need to be.
