Cardiff's second Scott Malone offer accepted by Millwall

SCOTT Malone is Cardiff-bound after Millwall accepted a bid for the left back.

The Bluebirds' initial offer was rejected but they returned with improved terms on Friday and have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with Malone.

Cardiff boss Russell Slade went on the record to confirm his interest in the 23-year-old after his side's FA Cup win over Colchester United last night.

"He is on our radar," Slade said.

But a deal is almost complete, with Malone only needing to pass a medical and finalise his contract before an official announcement can be made by the two clubs.

The Lions' preference was to swap Malone for a Cardiff player but they've decided to accept a cash offer of around £100,000 instead.

Ian Holloway could now push ahead with a loan move for Nottingham Forest's Dan Harding as Millwall look to quickly source a replacement.

Super, well done Millwall FC. Sell a 23year old for£100k and sign on loan a 30year old on say 6-10k a week so worst case the Malone fee is gone in 10 loan weeks. Good business sense that!!! Ambler...... I wouldn't let you run a bath let alone a business

Good luck Scott. Perhaps a coach with a bit more vision might help your career. There will be some derogatory comments on this site but just ignore them, you did a decent job for the lions.

Funny how we'll sell to a championship club but no-one will sell to us. What happened to the notion of Maynard coming here in exchange? What is 100k going to buy? FFS.

I'd use £10 of it to get the rest of his head shaved, clearly had to leave the barbers in a rush.

£100k? Thank you very much. What do people expect? Malone has been poor all season and done nothing to justify a new contract. Head was turned as soon as Cardiff expressed an interest, and would be more of a liability if we'd held out for an unrealistic fee.

@Hedgehog: Judged on his performances for us, would we have paid 100k for him ?
      Do not think so
Malone has same agent as Russell Slade, so this was a done deal, behind closed doors, before Millwall would have been formally informed of Cardiff's interest...... So 100k for a player who is nor worth 100k and who has had his head turned is good business...far better than having a liability in defence/squad for next 4/5 months and then get ZERO

Malone lost intrest playing for us, even though 100 grand is nothing for any player now days, until we want to buy someone then the price seems to go through the roof, anyway he's history now.

I think under the right coach Scott has the ability to play at the top level. Down the years we've seen it all before with the club selling their 'better' players to create space & funds for new signings so I don't get p***** off anymore because for smaller clubs like us who have trouble getting supporters through the turnstiles it becomes a way of life. Good luck Scott, thanks for your efforts. (in particular your goal at Loftus Rd).

That's why u make players that are worth money sign contracts, if he had more time on his contract we probably would of got some
Money back off of him, Bournemouth are having a laugh with us, we bought mcquoid off them then swapped him for Malone plus cash and now we're selling malone 100k.

s*** business millwall, but at least 100k is better than nothing at the end of the season. Just sign these players up. So we can sell them at a decent price

It is a shame to see Scott go the pros and cons What was his best position ? LEFT BACK what a LIABILITY he would never go for a 50/50 ball and win it he had no positional sense we were all ways Vulnerable on the left when he was in the back 4 at best Left Back in the changing room
WAS he a left sided wing back or midfielder either way you have to win balls not his greatest talent
on the pro side he did scare the opposiition with his surging runs sadly with no end result . We do need a solid left back with pace WITH A bit of work Briggs could be that Wilkenson certianly has that bite . ON the business acumen we have never really had any its a shame to loose a young player thanks heaven for JOHN BERYLSON

Why the suprise ?.. contracts are 2 way streets and he was never as good as he thought he was but the club do not help themselves in these situations . If he had been on a longer deal there is the possibility that he could have thrown his dummy out of his pram and decided to have a year in the stiffs and just collected his corn like some of the other highwaymen we have at the moment ... just get rid bad apples are not worth the time and trouble.

This deal only makes sense if Malone made it clear he wanted out and didn't want to play for us anymore or if his wages were stopping us signing 2-3 other players that the club felt we really needed. Maybe he was being a bad influence in the dressing room, still feels like we gave been fleeced though, & I agree with the criticisms of Malone but he was young and talented. Of course he could improve.

Admittedly on the face of it it looks typical Millwall I.e sign players for a fee, play absolute s.h.i.t in duration of their contract, fail to get them to sign a new contract - cause we've been absolute s.h.i.t in duration of previous contract and failed to improve and failed to sign any quality around them - then sell to a club in same division for peanuts and fail to get a player in exchange - probably cause we've been playing s.h.i.t and show no sign of improving.
Well IMHO 100k for a prima donna who's out of contract and has no intention of signing a new contract is just about acceptable it also pays Wycombe our fee for Paris, if you think we're hard done by spare a thought for them.
If we got 100k for each of the 24 out of contract you'd all be buzzing about it cause come the summer we'll get f.u.c.k all for em. I say get what we can for the shower of s.h.i.t cause to be frank we deserve f.u.c.k all for em cause they're all s.h.i.t.
By Scott maybe you can change your attitude in Wales while your there.cant wait for you to p.i.s.s the Taff's off knowing how much they hate the English prize p.r.i.c.k remember not to bite the hand that feeds you.

to be perfectly honest, malone was a s**** left back, couldn't tackle a ham sandwich, couldn't head a ball, crossing was awful, and in the scheme of things a good deal. when a player wants to play for you he will decide not to go, he didn't. know the fella in the block where i sit, malone is dating his daughter, he has told me about his attitude and it absolutely stank, so bye bye malone. w***** ! one player gone with the wrong attitude, i won't miss him. only want players giving their all for the fans and the team.

All you people who are saying it is stupid to let go, just think about it for a minute.
1 he would be gone in the summer for nothing.
2He aint that great at defending any way.
3 when was the last time he put a decent cross into the box.
4 IMO his heart is not at millwall,so would he have given his all in till the end of the season if we had kept him, i think not
5 He has started to have a bit of conflict with the fans anyway.
So let's just think with our head's and not our heart's.
best deal we could get IMO.

If that happens then it would've been a brilliant bit of business. Also Millwall have been looking at Danny Harding at Forest for a replacement for Malone.

And so the clear out begins, I wish Scotty all the best he was OK, but not someone I regret going. I have said this before if we can keep in this division, next year will be completely different, with a nucleus of young home grown Millwall players with a couple, and only a couple, of the existing squad then a number of new players who play the way the manager wants, the new lad Paris being an example, in other words a complete refresh. Can I just ask we all keep the faith, support the club by going to matches when we can and make some noise. I would also ask the players to please, please give us reason to make some noise, now what was the name of that Status Quo song?

£100 is better than we could have got for a player who will leave in six months for nothing and is clearly not bothered about putting a shift in for us this season. Going forward he has looked great in the past, but he is not a great defender.
On the other hand, it is a disgrace that Malone was not signed up to a longer deal some time ago so that we could have got a few more quid for him. Take a bow, Mr Ambler.

could see his attitude was wrong against Bolton - he took two long range shots which not no chance of finding the net - just wanted rid of the ball and not to be playing for us - I agree , he thinks he is better than he is - nearly cost us the win against brighton with a bit of slack defending

harding might be old - but we want half a season of old fashioned professional commitment from him and briggs and we won't know Malone ever played for us

@timchimes: Harding is not that old. 30 is a reasonable age. If we can get him in on a free, why not. He is rated by Forest fans who are surprised he is being released.

... One other thing we don't know is whether Malone wasn't signed up for a longer deal some time back because he had outrageous wage demands. He is known to think himself better than he is, so that may be the reason why it has drifted. Maybe my earlier criticism of Ambler is unfair (maybe not). Perhaps it will all come out now he on his way.

Good bit of business as far as I'm concerned. 100k for someone that was going for nothing soon , was a very poor defender, been telling our own supporters to " f*** off" on numerous occasions, and clearly did not want to be here. The reason his contract was running out is because holloway clearly didn't rate him and was happy to let it run out, and the only reason Cardiff came in for him is because he is cheap, I didn't see anyone offering decent money a year or so back, cos he isn't worth any decent money. And on the subject of his suggested replacement DAN HARDING is a far better left back than Malone, has played many many games at Southampton and FOREST etc, yes he's older than malone but so is wilkinson and Carlos and anyway he we need tightening up at the back in the short term now and can still have a look around for younger players for the future.

There are a lot of confused people on here. On the one hand they want to get rid of the 'wage thieves' but on the other they should all be on longer contracts so that we can get more money for them. Malone is rated by some on here but I didn't see anything that made him stand out as a true Millwall type player and a 100 grand towards rebuilding for a player out of contract in the summer seems fair enough.

@southstand: I would imagine that player contractual issues are dealt with by JB or AA, so the acceptance of 100k for Malone is not anything to do with IH.
Likewise, any signings, the contractual issues are not dealt with by IH.

With Scott Malone, we do not know what went on behind the scenes.
Maybe IH did not rate him,....but he has almost always played him when available
Maybe AA/JB did not offer him a new contract,
maybe they did offer him a new contract,
maybe Cardiff offered him more money than Millwall were prepared to pay or thought that he was worth..........
lots of maybe's.....the truth of the matter is that we do know.
What we do know is what we can see with our own eyes, Scott Malone, this season, has been poor (and that is being kind to him), he would have been able to walk away at the end of the season for nothing, so 100k now is a terrific deal, because there didn't appear to be any other club coming in for him.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion(s) about IH, but it is very wide of the mark to blame all the ills that Millwall are suffering, on IH shoulders. The players that he has brought to the club, have by and large, in my opinion, been OK considering the budget that he has had (not even Alex Ferguson had a 100% track record in the transfer market, spending tens of millions).
He has been stuck with players who are running their contracts down, that are not championship quality, and I would imagine it is a balancing act bringing in youth players, into an underperforming squad.........
will they be destroyed by getting hammered every week ?
will their heads be turned by being in the company of players who are not giving 100%
      who knows...
what I do know is that we pay our £27/30 to watch a match and get p***** off with the performances...but JB sticks with IH after spending considerably more than we ever will on MFC....there must be a reason for this....
if we trust JB and he trusts IH then surely the least we can do is give them our 100% backing

In my opinion he is one of those defenders that look better going forward than they are as an actual defender but having said that 100k is a joke and that was the improved offer, God knows what the first offer was............

The contracts are a shambles. Man Utd won the league using just 14 players in the 90's. so why do we have a bloated squad of rubbish? Trim the squad - bring in the youngsters and use any cash to buy a playmaker and a centre forward... Our kids can plug any other holes in the side.
I suspect the reason the contracts are a shambles is because theres a fear of failure. If you were confident you were going places you wouldnt worry about offering 3/4 year contracts.. All these rolling contracts tells me the player either isnt worth investing in or you think we'll be relegated and therefore dont want to commit the club to a spend that in 6 months time or whatever, we can no longer afford. So we need to smarten up quickly to save our season. Hope we get somebody with a bit of bite in the tackle - perhaps this Austin fella from Leeds.
