Millwall eye Harding as Cardiff ready new Malone offer

MILLWALL have lined up Nottingham Forest's Dan Harding as a possible replacement for Scott Malone, who is set to be the subject of an improved bid from Cardiff.

The Bluebirds look ready to up their offer for Malone after an initial approach was rejected.

And with the 23-year-old increasingly likely to depart The Den, Lions manager Ian Holloway has enquired about bringing in Harding, 31.

Malone and Harding share the same agent so a deal would be easy to sort out but he is one of several left backs on Holloway's radar.

The former Southampton defender has been told he is free to leave the City Ground.

And, speaking to press in the Midlands today, Forest boss Stuart Pearce revealed: "We spoke with Dan back in the summer and we were open minded with him.

"We said that if a loan or permanent move became available for him, we will listen to it.

"At this moment in time, there is a club who are interested in taking him, so the ball is in Dan's court a little bit."

I would stick with Briggs, give him a decent run and he will come good imo. Harding is average at best, why else would forest let him go.

@LETEMCOME: If Malone is going we will need another left back - we can't expect Briggs to play every single game! I can't think of another natural left back in the entire squad!

31 years old so he is in the right age bracket then, a 23 year old for a 31 year old, looks like when Ollie talks about youth in the team he means anyone under 35. I know Edwards is older but he was quality. Although I did not rate Malone all that he is still developing, this guy is on the way down. I suppose we should have expected this kind of transaction.

You sure its Dan Harding becuase according to the Nottingham post,we are interested in Greg Halford from Forest? Halford can play anywhere at the back so would be a good signing!

It's only newspaper talk probably put about by their agent.
Malone has played like his mind is elsewhere all season. Always thought he was weak at the back but in the past his attacking made up for that a bit. If it's a good deal I'm not too sad to see him go.

@dpendet: yeah don't want 31 year old players!! see this as not planning for the future, short term maybe? to get us moving in the right direction.

This lad is an experienced championshop player and think he would be useful. If we are set to lose Malone we will need cover. Sign him til the end of the season and give Briggs time to develop. Then address the problem long term in the summer? Makes sense to me!!

@DELBOY64: I agree. One of the many contradictory statements he has made since he came here was that he was going to concentrate on signing young players who the club could sell on. WHERE ARE THEY?? THE ONLY YOUNG PLAYERS HE IS LIKELY TO SELL ON ARE FROM OUR ACADEMY LIKE NELSON,GOODMAN,POWELL and FRED!!!

@denslions: @denslions: WELL SAID. I can remember one example of contradiction when I.H warned Malone he would have to be on his toes and keep looking over his shoulder when he brought Basone to the club as a left back.!!? yeah o.k. Just to add like many I have lost confidence and interest in I.H. Do not think whoever he brings in will make any difference.HOLLOWAYS STYLE OF PLAY WILL NOT ALTER NAMELY ONE UP FRONT,COUNTLESS CHANGES IN TEAM SELECTION REGARDLESS IF THEY PLAYED WELL BEFORE ,FORMATIONS-ENOUGH SAID AND STUBBORN NOT TO GIVE 442 A REASONABLE GO.

If he signs for us he's a wall player end of.

@eio: Nicky Maynard for Scott Malone is a fantastic deal, we tried signing him a few years back but couldn't afford him. If this comes off we have to say well done AA

@southstand: Agree with you,the players Ollie is thinking of bringing in cant be much cop if they cannot get in at their own Championship clubs, its obvious when we were looking decent loan deals we didn't get a smell they went elsewhere, wonder why.Still we have good treatment rooms for those I.H is about to bring in.THERE IS NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO BECAUSE I.H HAS LOST THE PLOT.STILL AS A FANATIC AND KEEP GOING AS WE ALL DO WHO KNOWS MIRACLES DO HAPPEN AND WE CERTAINLY NEED ONE.
