Millwall reject Cardiff City bid for out-of-contract Malone

MILLWALL have turned down a bid from Cardiff City for Scott Malone.

As first revealed by NewsAtDen, the Bluebirds are long-term admirers of the left back and firmed up their interest with a concrete offer in the last 48 hours.

Malone is out-of-contract in the summer and there have been no talks about an extension to his deal at The Den, so Cardiff are hoping to nab him for a cut-price fee.

But their opening bid of around £75,000 has been rejected.

Because of Malone's contractual situation, there is a limit to how much he will command in the January transfer window.

As a result, it is understood the Lions would be more inclined to part with the 23-year-old if Cardiff offered a player in exchange for him.

    Tbh I thought this was a done deal.

    IMO one of our better players but certainly replaceable.

      @bonnie1272: I respect a lot of people like him but I'm happy he's gone, don't get me wrong he was lively but he wasn't actually the best defensively and when he was attacking it didn't end up coming too much, looked like he done a lot but in reality he was s***, and Jesus he was terrible at crossing couldn't lift the fuckkng ball.

      Maybe I'm just being critical though cos I think everyone there is useless at the minute haha.

    Jones, Maynard or Le Fondre would be good swaps, but we could probably only afford Le Fondre's wages

    Let me start by saying that I do not rate Malone, he is quick and has reasonable dribbling skills but is far to often quite out of position due to an over zealous touch and isn't very good at tackling which as he is played as a wing back would be pretty useful also his final delivery is shocking and I mean shocking, I honestly can not remember a decent final ball all season.

    But and this is a huge but, £75,000 is a ridiculously small figure. We are a championship club for gods sake. This sum is derisory so we should not consider it. Honestly £75,000 in modern football, saying it aloud makes me chuckle.

    I do not rate him either. I think he's terrible and have seen him have about 2 reasonable games. He's been found out as a wing back who can't tackle and is scared to take people on. Although 75k is a small amount the club need to weigh up that against the possibility of letting him go on a free in summer. Hopefully a more sensible bid will be made but personally I think he's a bottle job and don't think he'd be a great loss.

      @southlondon1885: In total agreement with your post.
      Cannot tackle
      Cannot cross the ball
      Bottle job
      Cannot head the ball
      Cannot last 90 minutes

      Can any one of the Scott Malone appreciation society please tell me how he can be considered one of our better players ?

        @eio: Have to say I also agree. Malone can be one of the most frustrating players to watch. His main strength is he has ok pace and often gets into good attacking positions, however;
        -His final ball is so poor it is so poor that it makes the good positions he get into pointless
        -Then he is so far out of position that is exposes us at the back so we concede
        - He often plays hospital passes or losses the ball needlessly when in defensive positions
        - He is lightweight in the tackle...
        For me he is a player we could afford to lose and his weakness contribute too much to our overall squad weakness. In our current predicament we need we need strong, disciplined and decisive players..
        If he is gonna go on a free at the end of the season then think the club should sell him. But 75k is peanuts, think double that would still be cheap but better than nothing?!!

          @davesavagesleftfoot: Malone at left back has in my opinion been one of the main contributory factors to our left sided centre backs being a problem position as they more often than not are pulled out of position due to his poor positional play and inability to close down his side of the pitch....how many players in the championship are good enough to cover TWO positions
          75k plus his wages off the books is not that bad an offer compared with nothing at the end of the sason and his continued presence in our back four

            @eio: End of last season his attacking play was critical to our Great escape, but this season he has largely been a liability and I agree that his final ball has not been great either. We actually need to clone Wilkinson and have him and his twin play in both FB positions.

    I do agree with these posts he's pony let him go, but we need to replace him because briggs is just as bad, also most of the team won't tackle and are light weights, woolford, martin, for example.

    Truth is that currently Malone is our best Left Back, Briggs has plenty of potential but seems to have lost a lot of confidence lately and is a shadow of the player we saw earlier in the season. He probably needs a bit more time to settle in to the club, so unless we have another LB on the shopping list, I say that we keep Malone till end of the season unless someone comes up with an offer of >500K or a player swap that makes sense.

      @mfc2u:
      Would you swap a million pound goal scoring striker who's scored goals at premier league level, for a stroppy, yuppy looking s*** c*** left back, who most people are glad is going? No, didn't think so. People who think we will get maynard or le fondre as a straight swap for Scott Malone, are off their heads.
