Leeds bruiser and Newcastle wing back on Millwall's radar

© Edmund Boyden

LEEDS midfielder Rudy Austin and Newcastle United wing back Shane Ferguson are two names on Millwall's January radar.

Boss Ian Holloway is open to strengthening every position in his squad and tough-tackling Austin, 29, would add much-needed bite to the Lions' engine room.

The Jamaican is out-of-contract next summer and is understood to be close friends with Den striker Ricardo Fuller, who could persuade him to move to South London.

Ferguson is left-sided and can play in defence or on the wing.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international spent time on loan at Birmingham City last season and Millwall could take him on a similar short-term deal.

Brighton were linked with a move for Austin last month while NewsAtDen understands that Celtic have also expressed an interest in Ferguson.

24 hours later... a bit of hope and a small amount of believe has come back, but points need to be put on board.
Rated Austin for Leeds under Brian McDermott looks a useful player covers a lot of ground, but has been injury prone ... But I rate Shane Ferguson watched him under lee Clark for Birmingham and was a tidy wide man more a left mid with a decent cross works hard ... but was shut out in his second spell strangely into the footballing wilderness .

@mfclions: Hopefully we would get more game time out of Austin but if he is injury prone don't touch him with a barge pole unless you have plans for an extension on the treatment room. I don't know why people keep banging on about when Bailey comes back because if he does it won't be for long. His record here is atrocious, forget Bailey he cannot be relied on he is as good as finished.

Happy New Year NAD comrades. I hope it will be better for us all on the football front BUT I feel that we are already planning for a season or two in League One, I personally think it could be a positive if we went down as long as we played it right and came up within 2-3 seasons.

What is the point of scrapping at the wrong end of the championship year upon year when we could rebuild the team, blood the kids properly, cull the deadwood and win games for a change?

History shows that a successful Millwall in League One pulls in just as many if not more fans than the awful struggles in the Championship. Sometimes a step back can help in the long term.

@JonnyBanks: Fully agree Jonny at least it would be nice to win a few again, losing is so fking depressing and becomes a habit. The club is heameringing cash trying to stay in this div but the inevitable will come if not this year then next year, but lets drop regroup get shot of the non productive expensive leeches and rebuild. I want to stay in the Championship but with all the very rich owners, parachute payments etc it is an increasingly up hill struggle with the odds firmly stacked against us.

@Sealion: sorry guys, totally disagree. I think it is of utmost importance that we stay in the championship...why? because I honestly don't believe we would come straight back up. It kills me to say it, but I think we would drop into 3rd tier obscurity. Crowds would bottom out to 7000 ish, no Leeds, no fulham, Charlton, or possibly palace( when they get relegated from the prem, LoL). I think we need to fight for our place in this league and to be fair, none of the teams we have played have looked stunning, in my opinion,

Austin was the only Leeds Player that I thought played well earlier this season, he's a tough lad and not short on skill either. I think he would be a good addition but not sure what formation you would play with him available. He'd replace Bailey as a strong attacking midfielder.

RUDI AUSTIN, Defo yes, best player on the pitch when we beat LEEDS early this season. This fella is nothing like JIMMY or BAILEY. He's hard and class with it, I went home after the LEEDS game and googled him cos I thought he was so good for someone I'd never seen or heard of before. To those who say "not another midfielder I say get him and get rid of CHAPLOW , Bailey , and it don't look like Ollie fancies UPSON much.

Both look useful. Like the look of Austin who could add real bite to mid field. Ferguson again would be a very useful addition to our attacking play particularly in the cross department. So can we assume tippy tappy football is dead for this season

    Mail online 31 October.
Harry Redknapp has admitted he must use Bobby Zamora sparingly to control the QPR striker's chronic hip problems.
Rangers boss Redknapp hailed the 33-year-old's resolve for playing through the pain, but conceded the former Tottenham forward cannot last a full 90 minutes.
Zamora has battled rumbling hip complaints for almost two years, but Redknapp said QPR are fighting to keep him in action as long as possible.

He is a very good player who can pass, tackle, shoot and header which is something not 1 of our centre midfield can claim they can do all of. I suppose lampard is too old? And Gerard? Both centre midfielders and both older than 29! Since when was 29 old? Even for a footballer that's not f***** old. He was leeds captain for a while not too long ago aswell.

Best wishes for the New Year to all Lion's supporters and to MFC hoping for a far better year and a change in the direction of the club- upwards not downwards!

As much as I'm loving our that looks to be activity in this transfer market it goes to show we deserve to be were we are for not doing all this repair work in the summer as every club in the world does. Would love to know the logic behind us not doing this before the season started its not as if we've had injuries that have forced this activity.

@Jim28: unless his wages are seriously holding back signings I'd still play him before Briggs, on current form.

Or another half season with him available to play for us.

If his performances/attitude have dropped however maybe we should just get rid and take the (p*** poor) cash on offer? Tough one, hopefully someone else wants him as I would rather not sell to Cardiff.
