Millwall boss: We are one result away from a winning run

IAN Holloway says his side are one victory away from going on a winning run.

Millwall travel to Wigan tonight off the back of two creditable draws with Derby and Wolves, and Holloway believes three points could ignite their season.

The Lions have not won a game since August but Holloway feels that momentum is steadily building after recent results and performances.

Beating the Latics would lift Millwall back into mid-table following a disastrous September, in which they lost four out of five league games.

"Being in the Championship is like being an amateur golfer," Holloway said.

"One minute your straight on the green, you are thinking 'this is it, I've cracked it', and the next minute you're in the bushes.

"Are you the good shot, the bad shot or somewhere in between? We are somewhere in between at the moment. We are in the same league position we finished in last year.

"The good news is we've got loads more games left to try to improve ourselves. If we can take our chances and be a bit tighter at the back, we can get on a good run again.

"We're just a decent result away from going on another good run."

Holloway and his players have been analysing the good, bad and the ugly from Saturday's 3-3 draw with Wolves.

But while the Lions boss admits his side have to improve defensively, he insists they did not deserve to be trailing by three goals.

He said: "Let's be honest and cut the bullshit, no way should Wolves have been 3-0 up on the balance of play and the efforts on goal.

"They couldn't believe it themselves – they had four shots!

"Just look at what happened to Sunderland at the weekend – they lost 8-0 so anything can happen in football these days.

"We somehow found ourselves 3-0 down and in 24 minutes scored three goals.

"That's brilliant because we hadn't scored three goals in a game since I have been here. We looked like we could score all game and it was vital that we kept fighting.

"The thing that upset me was that we almost let a fourth goal in by not being structured.

"When we went to three at the back with two wing backs, we should know that shape.

"That formation got us back into the game but we went too gung-ho. Look at what Liverpool did to QPR on Sunday – we did that and got Shaun Williams sent off."

Williams will serve his one-match suspension against Wigan, who have won just two games all season.

"I'm not sure what's going on with Wigan – my focus is going there and working with my players again to get a result," said Holloway.

"It's just another chance to get another game in.

"We had last night to analyse Wigan and talk about what we are doing. We went over the good bits from Saturday and we've got a session this morning on an indoor pitch.

"I want us to attack in the same way but we could have done much better with two of the goals we let in – when they hit the post, we weren't alive to the rebound.

"We will go and impose our game on Wigan. There seems to be a bit of uncertainty there so hopefully we can capitalise."
