Malone: It's up to me to win a new contract with Millwall

FATHER-to-be Scott Malone knows that his form over the next few months will decide his Millwall future.

Malone, who is due to become a dad for the first time in four weeks, has been challenged by manager Ian Holloway to earn an extension to his contract, which expires next summer.

The left back was dropped to the bench at Derby before the international break for the first time in 19 Championship games.

So with a baby on the way, the 23-year-old admits he is under pressure to win back his place in Holloway's starting XI and secure his long-term future with the club.

"We're coming up to Christmas and when you're out-of-contract, it's always a big time for you," Malone told the Southwark News.

"Nothing has been said regarding my contract so I'm taking things one game at a time.

"If you're out-of-contract and not in the team, it does increase the pressure a bit.

"I haven't really thought about what's going to happen – I've got a lot going on at home at the moment – but I'm sure something will come about.

"But you can't wait for it, you've got to make it happen. It is up to me to get back in the team and earn an extension.

"With a child on the way, it's a bit unusual for me at the moment but I'm sure I'll handle it. I'm really looking forward to becoming a dad."

Surley he wont be first on Ollies list to move out of the club, and why would he not want two good players fighting for the same position. It can only keep the incumbent on his toes week in week out. He is one for the now and the future unlike some others who only have a past.

Think we will be crazy to let him go. Especially on a free transfer or the stupid tribunal fee for under 24s. Since coming into the squad last season, he has been for me, one of the better performers on the pitch and chipped in with a couple of important goals.
Sign him up quickly and avoid a potential Chris Taylor saga of 2 seasons back

We signed him for 250k plus 550k josh mcquoid so that's an 800k player making him our join most expensive player. And our most expensive in recent years. And now that he is finally proving why he was worth so much were gonna risk letting him go for free. Come on millwall i even said years ago that letting Lewis grab an go was a mistake but he was a c******. So I agreed that for us it was for the best but Malone is a bigger mistake.

Don't worry Scotty, your golden mate. Its just Ollie being the big man again. Your one of his best players and he knows it!

I don't think we are anywhere good enough to let someone as good as him go. He can double up as a left winger as well. This is silly talk

I like Malone but he has often been poor this season, the final ball bad, crossing bad defensively poor. We all know what he can do , he needs to get this baby and settle down to some hard graft.

Just keep playing well full stop you shouldn't be playing well just to earn a contract, You should be playing well for the badge, for the team and for the fans. You'll be fine anyway last year Malone was our most improved player just keep improving and I would like to see him push up the pitch with Briggs LB in the future with bags of pace down that flank. I'd be stunned if he wasn't offered another deal. Apart from Jimmy , he's arguably our most improved , consistent performer

Briggs left back, stick malone up at left wing he's got the pace but needs to spend all day tomorrow trying to cross the ball.
